Hi all,

a bar i often visit has cymbals attached on their counter!

yesterday i discovered one of them is a smaller (13"?) zildjian old K!!

It's very thin and looks really nice BUT it has a 1" crack in it on the side:(

so, can it be saved? and would it still sound good??

Who knows if it could be saved?

We would have to see the crack. Edge cracks are easy to fix, a crack in the bow is basically the beginning of the end. I know people drill cracks, but I am not one who sees much redemption in edge-drilled cracks.

How is it attached? Bolted down? Glued? If you buy it, you may just have a very expensive piece of bronze with no value EXCEPT that it's an old K.

Need pics. I saved a 2002 17" thin crash, by cutting out an edge crack. I can't hear the difference, as it still sounds great.

Good luck if you go for it.

It's bolted down using the middle hole, it even has felt between the cymbal and the screw so that's not a problem...

I won't buy it, I ask if I can have it if I can save it :p

The crack is not straight, it's more a S shape!

I'll make a pic next time

Thanks for all the help so far

Dennis

If it is right at the edge and only a inch you might be able to cut it out. I don't know much about cymbal repair but it would be nice to fix the crack. I am not sure how easy or feesable something like that is. I would defiantly rescue it though. No vintage cymbal should be used as decorative purposes...least like that anyway.
