Cleaning tension rods with a drill

Loading...

I don't have a cleaning wheel or for that matter the room for it. Thought I would share this video for cleaning tension rods.

Sure beats hand cleaning 24 tension rods. Wish I had waited to clean them until after I saw your video. Next time ! Thanks.

Oh and Zildjian and Ludwig.

Nice one, BBK... thanks for posting that.

Yep I've got the 'ole black thumbnail syndrome right now from doing the groove thing.

Nice job! Looks great!

Another "manual" way that works is to get a small wire brush (much like a toothbrush), use some Windex or other cleaner depending on how gunky they are, or possibly a little CLR if they are rusty. Spray the cleaner on the tension rod and scrub with the wire brush. Wear a rubber glove so you don't accidentally nick your hand with the wire bristles (ouch).

The "toothbrush" wire brushes usually come in a three pack at a hardware store for less than $5. This method has worked very well for me. It's also good for cleaning wing screws, and also for cleaning Speed King footboards and Spur Lock Hi-Hat footboards, because it really gets in the grooves and lettering.

Thanks BBK,

I have also been using your "Lug Insert" drill cleaning method on the Slingo's.

Works great .. using "Dursol Shine", a metal polish from Germany. It's a paste in a tube. I just use a little on some soft cloths. They are coming up like new. (only about 70 to go)..

Cheers

I was at bbk's house yesterday! Lot's of new cool stuff to look at! Anyway, I was treated to a live demonstration of cleaning the tension rods. Works pretty darn good. I'll definitely try it next time!

Thanks Mark, it's a bit chaotic in the "drum garage" as you have witnessed. It's always good to see you, hope you find the cymbal!! I put the 16" Rogers head aside to see if I can find the 12" too. I'll keep you posted.
