Gracy Bass Drum Claw Hooks - Page 1

I'm just putting the finshing touches on my Gracy resortation. It's not really a restoration, because they were in pretty good shape to begin with, but I am just making them extra nice.

My question is, what bass drum claws did Gracy use on their kits? Everything appeared to be original on my kit, but the bass drum claws that came with it were exactly like the generic stamped kind that Gibraltar sells (see photo below). I am not certain, but it seems odd that a 60's kit would come with those type of claws. The T-rods are Grestch round badge copies. In fact, the whole Gracy kit is pretty much a round badge copy. So maybe a better question to ask is: "What kind of claw hooks were used on round badges?"

I was going to use standard butterfly claws (always look great on vintage kits), but I wanted to see if anyone knew for sure. I just think they would look better than the default claws. Almost everthing on the kit (except the snare strainer/butt) is original, and I would like to keep it that way if possible.

The claw that you posted in wrong for the Gracy drums.They came with a copy of the Gretsch claw of the 60's But the Gracy claws did not have the lines on them like Gretsch did...Mikey

Thanks Mikey. I could not get any definitive info on Gracy photos online, so I found this round badge photo. The t-rods are identical to my Gracy and the lugs are identical is well. The tom mount is close, but the Gracy is not a rail mount. If I can't find claws like this, at least I know I'll be close if I use butterfly claws (closer than the ones that came with my kit, at least).

Update: These claws are available from Explorers Percussion among others, but at $7 a pop, they might be a little too steep (I would need 16 of them). There are also lots on ebay, but most come with the t-rods (which I don't need). Those are pricey too. $112 is a bit much to spend just on claw hooks, when the whole kit only cost me $225!

Considering I have extra butterfly claws just lying around, I may just go that route. It may not be completely authentic, but then again, it is not a true round badge kit either.

Thoughts?
