Hi Dominik,

This looks to be a late 1950s early teardrop kit in the New Beat series. As far as I am aware, New Beats were the first Sonor drums to be international size (i.e. inch, not metric, heads).

From your pictures it looks like you've got two bass drums, but no floor tom.

I wouldn't think the value is too exceptional for these drums, but do inquire over at www.sonormuseum.com/forum for some expert advice. You should also be able to id your drums by comparing them to the catalogs over at www.sonormuseum.com.

The shells of your drums are probably very thin 3-ply beech with reinforcement rings.

This looks like a 1957/1958 "Melodie" set from Sonor. I have a 1958 "Melodie" set in the same WMP color, and this looks very, very, VERY close to mine. The only difference I see is the bass drum...mine is single lug in the center. And YES, your set is Definetly "International" size heads which are hard to find today. There are ways around that, but thats for another post.

Also......the value of your set could be HUGE to a Sonor collector. There are not many of the 1950s Sonor drums left. Many were traded into dealers toward new sets because they had International size shells, and the dealers did not want to have to carry heads of both sizes in their inventory. They wanted to phase "International" out. Once traded in, the dealers then stripped the shells for the metal parts, and destroyed the shells.

My own "Melodie" set is in sorry condition and collectors still want it. My project for early next year is to restore it from the ground up. Same color as yours!!

The bidding war for that set goes quickly, a Sonor collector will throw out a rediculous bid for a swift catch or it wont get seen and drag on !!

There is a forum member on the sonormuseum forums (hemelsoet),...He is an avid vintage Sonor collector and will know all about what you have, plus I know he will have the correct hardware stands ect.ect., ...but you`ll have to twist his arm to get him to sell if you`re interested in the correct hardware !!

Is the other Bass missing it`s hoop ?

Just to set things straight. International sizes are what we use today, with heads and shells measured in inches, not centimeters. The older, European (?) standard is called metric. Metric heads are hard to find.

As regards the value of a kit like this, I beg to differ from the opinion that it could be huge. I would honestly be surprised if even a die-hard Sonor collector would pay more than 3-400 Euros for a kit like this. Of course I could be wrong, but I am a Sonor player myself and have a couple of Phonic kits and one early teardrop kit from app. 1960.

I've seen extremely beautiful old 1950s Sonor kits offered on eBay for 1000-1500 USD.

It has some hardware and some cymbals naming DELRUM 2 on board. Is it better than previous? For sure is complete, it required only new heads.

The price is basically the same for both - > around 350 US dollars.
