I wanted to comment on a post I left on this subject-I really didn't know that Gretsch cast rims were $75 each.Now I do.....

1660 completed listings with 77 sales. Wouldn't the ebay fees alone put them out of business? Or is it free to list now unless you sell?

threads like this will put them out of business if enough "collectors" decide to protect our craft. A standard color 14x20 Rogers Bass Drum from the cleveland beavertail era is worth aprox. 900.00 stripped down. As long as people can buy complete drums like this as singles or in sets and average out a 300.00 per drum price, then, it is more financially efficient to strip them. Now, which of you dumb asses who are buying these parts can sell your 14x20 for 900.00? Just sayin my opinion. Collector grade parts are coming off of collector grade drums that are being destroyed.

The vintage drum market will be destroyed.

I think the response all of us should have is to boycott any of these stripper sellers. And any drum you have for sale should equal the sum of the parts for price. Raise the value, and close the parts market.

Sadly, Big Brother is watching...da' Gob'ment want it's piece of the pie, which means eBetray's gotta cover their a$$ and in-turn PayPolitics has gotta cover their a$$ and in-turn, we all take it up da'a$$. Very sad times...very sad!...the "Tin Scrapper" mentality is destroying our little world, but also many others. I've seen shows with guys who call themselves "Pickers" basically tell the general public that they can make more money parting out a piece of history than they can keeping it in tact...un-fu@kin believable! That's why I have over 60 old snares in my loft waiting for restoration...I knew who I was bidding against & was not going to let them have it. I guess you all think I'm nuts but what we do is important...can you imagine a world without these old treasures?...I can't & really don't want to.

A human being's naturally occuring intuition is a powerful force if allowed to analyze a scenario, bias free. When I was deciding to use EBAY for the first time about a month ago, I stumbled across that crimson/paisley colored swath of material that had some of the parts I was looking for. I noticed there was about sixty nine other ads with the same material with other batches of singular parts, which pretty much spelled out DRUM STRIPPER to me. Then, I read the entire ad and came across Leecountymusic's shipping declarations which stated they can and will send a second shipping bill to cover any handling charges. They even go a step further to justify this obvious money-grubbing by saying it is for overhead, water, electric, rent, etc and state that EBAY allows this and if you don't like it, don't submit a winning bid. Well, my spidey-sense was on overdrive and I moved onto other ads where I found 8 slingy torpedo rods from some kid who was obviously not a drum stripper, for a real good price. It is really obvious to me who are the strippers or not online. The ads of strippers all have that mojo that screams stripper, and like I opened with; if we can put our desire for the parts on the backburners long enough to allow our gut instincts to speak up before hitting the bid button, the strippers will find it hard to move their wares.

There isn't a drum part in the world worth that greasy, gutted feeling I would get by supporting a drum-stripping-profiteering-shark like that.
