Can you identify this Premier Snare?

Loading...

Hello Vintage Drum-Community :) ,

I'm Sebastian from Germany and this is my first post. I play drums for 14 years and I'm very happy I found this forum because I have a huge problem identifying this Snare. I got it with an Acryl Sonor Drumkit and I hope you can help me figure it out.

The Material seems to be steel. It's 14x6,5. I took this pictures:

If you need more infos or pictures please let me know and I will post them.

Thank you for your time and help!

It looks to me like some MIT from 80-s,typical shell for that time, copy of Tama lugs, and some parallel snare strainer with snare like Super sensitive, and Premier badge.Interesting part is,that badge can not be find here on VDG or other sites with Premier vintage drums. My guess is this is New Sound from Pearl factory in Taiwan, from 80-es,and badge is put latter

I agree with your assessment. The shell looked nothing like what Premier offered, nor did the lugs. The badge also looks more than a tiny bit weird. I am by no means a Premier expert, but I do appreciate all things Premier and have never seen this badge. Not to say that it doesn't exist, it's just so out of place on this drum that I don't recognise it.

Also- the hoops are not diecast- dead giveaway that it's NOT an older Premier drum.

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!

Dule, Good work! The anomalies had me baffled. The only Premier part on the drum is that ancient badge. Go figure.

The badge is circa 1930's.

The drum is not a Premier.

Some bozo put an old badge on it to make it look like a Premier either for resale scam or to impress their friends in thinking he had a cool snare. I've seen this happen before where a kid had torn off the badges from a Ludwig kit and slapped them on his POS MIJ kit to make him look cool.

Hope you didn't pay a lot for it.

I'd remove the badge, mount it on a plaque and frame it.

Thank you all for your response!

So it's more of a mixed bag of cheap 80s drum parts with an old Premier badge slapt on it and NO super-hyper-custom Premier Snare. Thats ok and I am really happy now that i know the real origin of this snare.

@JRichard: No, I didn't pay much for the whole kit and the snare was not the reason i bought the kit.

By the way: This is what the kit looks like (not in the picture are the 12" and 14" toms, instead there is a 10" maple tom from "Magna Drums" I used for this recording session). The whole kit seems to be more "custom" (in a bad way) and less of a real sonor acryl set.

Its a 24" Bassdrum, 12" and 14" toms, 16" stand tom and the above "Premier" snare.

He he, thank you. This is a very awesome sounding cymbal indeed.

The pictured 18" Paiste Signature Dark Energy crash is also very nice. I was blown away when I hit it the first time - it was like "Hey, this sounds like its coming from a mastered CD recording".

I also bought a 16" "Mehmet" crash cymbal from "Istanbul". These cymbals sound very nice too and are very cheap.

I have a Stewart Copeland Blue Bell ride that I LOOOOOOOOVE!!!!

I should try those Istanbul cymbals... But I am true to Paistes and nothing else. With the exception of the Blue Bell, I am in love with Alphas!!!!
