Hey everyone. Steve, here. Glad to stumble on this site and see how many people are into vintage drums. After years in storage (in those old drum protectors....the cloth and zipper kind :( ) I just retrieved them. They look like how I left them. Nice and shiny and clean.
I was lured into drumming by an old friend many years ago and encouraged me to find a "starter set". So, being the taoist that I am, I kept mindful and aware of what I needed and it came to me in the form of a 1960s era Rogers Silver Sparkle 4 piece (I think it's a jazz set). I bought it from a co-worker in 1997 for 300 dollars. I felt it was a good deal and gave him what he asked for it.
The set consists of a 14x4.5 dynasonic snare with serial number 4287, a 12x7 mounted tom, a 14.5x16 (or thereabouts) floor tom and a 20x14 bass drum. It's also got the original pedals and the cymbals are whatever (I don't think their important to the set cuz they're pretty trashy).
The set itself is in, I believe, good to very good condition. Plays great and sounds great (to my newb ears, at least....I'm just drumming as a hobby).
What I'm really wondering about is the snare drum. Anyone have any ideas on what year and how much it might fetch if I decide to sell it? Another question, if I decided to sell the entire set, how much could it get? Like I said, the set is in damn good condition (good-very good....certainly not mint as there are some minor things going on with the rings on the bass...but, overall, complete restoration is not necessary).
The reason why I'm asking is because I live in an apartment building and my girlfriend forever wants me to sell them. LOL She wants me to get a set of V-Drums or something similar where I can put headphones on. LOL Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!
