New Guy Incoming!

Hey everyone. Steve, here. Glad to stumble on this site and see how many people are into vintage drums. After years in storage (in those old drum protectors....the cloth and zipper kind :( ) I just retrieved them. They look like how I left them. Nice and shiny and clean.

I was lured into drumming by an old friend many years ago and encouraged me to find a "starter set". So, being the taoist that I am, I kept mindful and aware of what I needed and it came to me in the form of a 1960s era Rogers Silver Sparkle 4 piece (I think it's a jazz set). I bought it from a co-worker in 1997 for 300 dollars. I felt it was a good deal and gave him what he asked for it.

The set consists of a 14x4.5 dynasonic snare with serial number 4287, a 12x7 mounted tom, a 14.5x16 (or thereabouts) floor tom and a 20x14 bass drum. It's also got the original pedals and the cymbals are whatever (I don't think their important to the set cuz they're pretty trashy).

The set itself is in, I believe, good to very good condition. Plays great and sounds great (to my newb ears, at least....I'm just drumming as a hobby).

What I'm really wondering about is the snare drum. Anyone have any ideas on what year and how much it might fetch if I decide to sell it? Another question, if I decided to sell the entire set, how much could it get? Like I said, the set is in damn good condition (good-very good....certainly not mint as there are some minor things going on with the rings on the bass...but, overall, complete restoration is not necessary).

The reason why I'm asking is because I live in an apartment building and my girlfriend forever wants me to sell them. LOL She wants me to get a set of V-Drums or something similar where I can put headphones on. LOL Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

Buy some mesh heads and external triggers, not sure how well it will work but you can buy mesh heads or make your own. There are some things that are too difficult to replace after you sell them. As with all electronics, I don't think a td 7 kit would be as cool when it's vintage.

Post some pictures, these threads are worthless w/o pics:)

Well...just out of the goodness of my heart, just cause I likes ya n' all, I'll give ya' the $300 bucks you got in them, as long as you ship them to me...NO-NO, you don't have to thank me, I'm just a giving kinda guy!...yup, that's me...GIVING!..............so what do you think?....OK, what if I pay the shipping?........sh%t! LOL!

Sounds like you got a fairly decent starter set there! The snare on a bad day is worth more than what you paid for the kit. I'm not really a Rogers guy, but there's a lot of them on this site, so I'm sure they'll respond.

Dan, LMAO! Yeah, but, I'm tryin to git rid of 'er and I'm offering a good deal of $300.01. Sorry you're not able to come up with the scratch. I'll give it to you for $300.005. Deal?

Man, I've been playing it recently after years of being away from it and everything and then some is coming back to me. I just do it for a fun hobby. Golf and drumming are my loves.

Yeah, I'll post some pics, for sure. I just got on here and wanted to float my post. See how much response I get with it.

WOW! Very nice my friend! Early 7 line Dyna•Sonic, sweet little 4 piece Jazz kit...that is nice! I'd have a very hard time parting with that kit...that was made back when the air was clean & sex was dirty! LOL!

Not sure about the rest of the kit, but I've seen low serial # 7 liners go for $600 & up on the Bay, but they were all completely intact & in excellent condition. Very nice kit, wish I had the scratch to buy it if you decide to sell, they just don't make them like that anymore!

w e l c o m e!!!!

Get a Drum Kat, a cheap, older drum brain w/midi and keep the Rogers. Don't sell them. Going e-drums exclusively KILLED my dynamics!!!!

There is nothing charming about vintage e drums except for the funny sounds, and I am dead serious!!!! This is coming from an e drummer from way back.

Yeah- I'm THAT guy!!!

Thanks, man. But, you know, maybe someone wants it more than me. I can always get a cheap beatdown set. Given the fact that I'm a newb, I feel like I don't really deserve the set. Plus, I've been into electronic music forever....hence, the name. So I just think it fits and benefits everyone involved.
