has anyone ever used 10 lug Gibralter Hoop on a 68' Ludwig Supraphonic?

I just bought this snare for $100 at a Pawn shop. Its in pristine condition but when I got it home I noticed one of the lug holes along the edge of the hoop is broken. This doesnt seem to affect the drum yet or the sound but Im looking to replace it in the near future and looked for the Ludwig hoops but am having a hard time finding the size I need anywhere so I'm thinking about getting the Gibralter replacement but I dont want it to affect the sound. I dont want to get diecast because I heard it weighs on the head. Anyways, if anyone can help with this, that would be greatly appreciated thanks

Diecast will give the HUGE back beat crack, if that is what you are into.Mind Blowi

If you want to keep it as original as possible, go to Interstate Music and order 1.6mm Cannon hoop. There were no 2.3mm hoops back then.

No problem at all. I've replaced the original hoops (the holes were worn out) on my supraphonic with gibraltar hoops. There is no difference in sound at all. It tunes better now :) The drum is as crispy and sensitive as it was designed to be.

+1 for the 1.6mm hoops... if you want to keep it original sounding. I've used these cannon hoops before and have found them to be very good... and inexpensive! Give them a try!

No, but I've replaced the hoop on a '65 Supraphonic. Lo and behold, it worked, by crikey!
