From O-Lugs

I know a guy who uses a 14 x 11 tom tom in a cradle, as a bass drum and it sounds killer in a small room.

I was at a local music shop the other day, and I saw somebody had converted a 12" tom to a bass drum, with wood hoops, legs, riser, tom mount. Lame

SERIOUSLY! When is this silly small bass drum fad going to pass? How small are bass drums going to get before it's over? Eye Ball

All I know is that my bass drum evolved to fit a gig I play. It works very well. I just played it recently on a gig with Wayne Horvitz. He seemed to like the sound of it. And he's played with some pretty good drummers, so maybe it's not just my imagination that super-small bass drums can work in the right setting.

12" sounds a bit small even for me....but I won't rule it out. It's all percussion, after all. Maybe something like that could be used like a left-foot cowbell pedal -except with a 12" drum....?
