12 by 16 as BD?

Loading...

Got a Geo Way Red Sparkle 12 by 16 tom the other day,and am thinking of making a BD out of it..........

Would that be too shallow of a shell though?

I know Gretsch made a COUPLE of 14 by 16 RB BD's,but try to find one!

NO WAY is 12" too shallow. I have a 16x12 red sparkle Rogers bass drum that sounds AMAZING! In fact, I think it might sound a little better if it were 10" deep...

OK Caddy,

thanks for that......

I have most of the lugs cleaned, and am going to try to finish them all today......

Where do I get 16" BD heads from though?

......................................................................

BTW......I did the math.......

14 by 14 = 196

12 by 16 =192

so,going by that, wouldn't my drum make up a fake 14 by 14 pretty well?

Online. Or, since I can only imagine that you're using such a size bass drum for jazz, go the traditional route and use a regular head (coated/clear/1-ply/2-ply...it's up to you), and muffle it how you would (towel/tape/felt strip/port hole/etc...). The more open, the better!

...I'll bet they sound pretty darn close to my super-deep 6x32 tom...:D

Aquarian has 16" BD heads as well. Only work with wood hoops though.

I know a guy who uses a 14 x 11 tom tom in a cradle, as a bass drum and it sounds killer in a small room.

That guy?

....is ME!

I have some 16" wood BD hoops already, but they have a blue satin flame inlay.........might look cool with red sparkle though!
