What make and model is this drumkit ? The wrap has been removed and the finish is bare wood which the previous owner thinks is mahogany.
Thanks
JP

Possibly Tama, but don't quote me.
Thanks I thought so too but the tom mount base holder on the kick drum shows two holes which looks like Pearl ?
Not a Star or TAMA, this is a "Made In Taiwan" or MIT kit of the mid 80s and beyond. This would be a Pearl stencil of the later days, into the 80s and 90s.
Thanks ,so not that great ?Could it be made from mahogany ?
In the old days, when an American drum company used Mahogany, it was Cuban or Honduran or the like and when a European company used Mahogany it was one of those or African Mahogany. These are the only true Mahoganies and have become a prized and fairly rare wood due to overharvesting.
The oriental drums used a group of species from S.E. Asia that resemble Mahogany to look at them but aren't.The actual term is Asian Mahogany and that term is used in the lumber trade but to add a lustre to those woods but in the lumber trade they almost always abbreviate it to Mahogany. It's one of those lies of commerce----light,fibrous,coarse,it splits easily and absorbs soundwaves ; however it looks pretty good. the main uses of it are where a cosmetic value is important, and the structure or performance of the wood is not valued and at the time those cheap oriental drums were made it was cheap. Those species too have been overharvested and they don't show up much any more. The last Taiwanese kit that I looked at had thick Poplar shells.
That's funny-MIT stencil of a mid line Tama kit.At least it has enough lugs to actually tune them, unlike newer China's with 6-lug floor toms and 5-lug mounted toms. You know, luan just doesn't look that great finished.Sort of like a H.S.wood shop project, like a napkin holder.
Thanks to all for comments.I have looked into it further and it appears to be a 80's Pearl Export kit with the wrap removed.
