help identifying old pearl drums

Ralf! Holy cow, but you're good! I bought that damper control for the 13" tom back in the mid-eighties. Nothing wrong with the original, just thought this one looked "cooler". And you know how it is, you're 16, you're working as a dishwasher, you go into a music store with five bucks in your pocket, and you've got to buy something! Plus, already got a juice harp, slide whistle, and pair of claves.

So, I did a search for Star Drums One touch and, sure enough, that's it. The knobs on the floor tom and snare are still original.

The clamp on the 13" tom was needed. The original kept drooping, and the tom, hitting the snare.

Mr. Fishwaltz....yours is not Tiger Eye, its a strata, see tis link, 1969:http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/pearl_finishes.htmlMr Flip, yours is Tiger Eye, see the same link and year, or any of the years.

Hi jonni! How ya doing!

Yeah, you're right, and not... Mine is actually 'Tigers Eye Pearl'. As far as I can tell though, you're probably right about the other. No clue why Pearl drums didn't call it a strata, since that is indeed what it is.

Flip: Thanks about the radio stuff... My other hobby! :)

I was wondering why Pearl would have a Star (Tama) muffle on 'em... I love those muffles, but I just wish they would have made the 'switch' out of something besides plastic!

Those look like my '68 Super Deluxe w/ that moon-gel finish.

They are possibly made with masonite.

Nah...if it is a painted interior of grey...then the shells are likely what we call "lauan" or Asian mahogany...far too many guys call it "firewood"...

Hi Bnack

I have a late 60's Pearl kit, (maybe a stencil kit since there are no badges), that I thought was fiberglass but, It's actually Phenolic resin.......the interior of the shell looks like they're made from masonite but they're actually phenolic resin, not masonite or fiberglass. The shells are thin and sound VERY LOUD. Here are some pics of the kit
