Gorgeous...You can go to the Trixon site and see if there is a catalog with the wrap colors. It looks really vibrant, is it an original wrap? That would be my first course of action, the Trixon Tribute site is here: http://www.trixondrums.de/trixon/trixon0.htm

These guys should be able to help you find all the info you could ever want.

WOW!! A Trixon Telstar!!!

Thats my dream set. I have to be honest and say I'm not crazy about that wrap color (I like bright, guady wrap) but the drums themelves are awesone.

Never mind the color-are those Trixon drums ?They look MIJ to me.Clip mounts, swivel spurs, typical MIJ lug shape and that "stranded sparkle" wrap thats been "in the news" here lately. These could be in the weirdo MIJ group, like the chrome steel Apollo's.

Tev: I could be wrong, but I do not think that any MIJ set was ever built as a Trixon Telstar knockoff with the conical shells. The Telstars were too hard to build for the MIJ guys to knock them off.

I think the set the OF has are in fact Trixons, but a later set.

Someday, I'll own a set!

It is possible someone switched the lugs. The bass lugs certainly look like Pearl "battleship" lugs and the rest look like the Pearl/Slingerland SoundKing lugs. I'm with Retro, I don't think the MIJ crowd would have taken the time to build a conical mold and there not be more of them around. We, the ones that monitor the MIJ world, would have seen some of these by now.

Back to the idea of switching lugs, "the lure of easy money has a very strong appeal", and some brain trust may have been offered a large sum of money to sell/exchange them....or some real Einstein may have just really liked the look of MIJ lugs and traded with one of his buddies, or some mix of these ideas...

I truly don't see Pearl or Star having spent the money to make the molds for conical shells and not build a million of them.

OK, after a closer look, let's see the "badges", this looks like a mix-n-match kit. What type of wood is the interior of the shells, the bass, the conical floor tom, the mounted toms...the toms look like MIJ. The bass and floor tom are likely Trixon, the toms likely MIJ. Also, can we see the details of the snare? The strainer, the butt end, the muffler knob...My guess, and it is just that, that someone got bare Trixon shells, and had the toms and all the parts from an MIJ kit, or a Pearl stencil kit that they did not like, the Trixon shells came along, so they put the parts on the Trixon shells, wrapped the whole thing in the new wrap, and called it good.

I certainly hope you didn't pay Trixon prices for this kit, as it is not at all original.

After closer examination, this set does NOT have swiveling spurs-they penetrate the shell. But I'm not backing down from my contention that they are MIJ.None of the Telstars on the German website had clip mounts or Slingy style lugs. The badge on the tom looks like a typical oval foil job.I can't see any extra holes in this set-it looks to be in excellent condition. The boys from Nippon were masters of mimicry, whether it be guitars, drums, whatever. And that pearl pattern is on other MIJ's.Don't Telstar bass drums have steel hoops?Maybe I'll eat crow......Burger Kin

Tev, I agree with Jon...I think he hit the nail right on the head.

Someone had a set of Trixons, and sold the lugs, tom mount, ect, then installed MIJ lugs. I'm sure one could find a MIJ lug that had the same hole distance as the Trixon lugs, thereby no need to drill holes.

I cannot see an MIJ "copy" of the conical shell.......as Jon says, there would have been thousands made and none of us have ever seen one!!!

So yes, I think you have a Trixon Bass and floor shell with MIJ lugs, and a MIJ snare and mounted tom.

This is not a bad thing!! The set looks nice.
