Installing badges

Loading...

Hello men. Wondering what is the best way to re-attach these pearl badges. They are very thin aluminum with some of the origional glue residue still present. I removed them from pvc wraps with a putty knife after the wraps were removed from the drums and they actually still have the curved shape to them. Last time I did this I used a two part epoxy and an old paint brush. I had trouble getting the badge nice and flush without the corners sticking up. It was like the glue was too thick. And I did not have a plan for clamping them either. This time I want it right!

Any input would be appreciated. The finish on the drum is new lacquer with a blue die under.

Thank you,

Jeff

try some psa tape like they sell for installing wrap. This is an application where it should actually work well.

Is that like a double sided tape? Where do you get it?

Thank you,

Jeff

I would think a quick shot of a decent spray adhesive on the back of the badge will do the trick. Tape has thickness, it'll raise the badge slightly over the surface of the drum and you'll be snagging sleeves, and other things on it in no time.

most of those tags were originally installed using double sided tape. Shouldn't be a problem.

Well that would solve the clamping issue. You think some good quality tape from the hardware store will do it?

Thank you,

Jeff

You can buy carpet tape. It's a thin tape with adhesive on both sides. It's meant to hold down carpet so it's got a very strong adhesive.

You definitely don't want that white foam double stick tape. That stuff is about 1/16" thick and would cause problems and would look funky.

3M makes several. Some are contact cements others are simple adhesives. For an aluminum badge you don't need super-strong anything. It's just a badge for Keerists sake.

Jeff, you probably have something already in the shop you can use.

I use the 3M Super 77 spray adhesive at work which is in an industrial setting...This is an amazing adhesive...Just spray both sides , let set up for a couple minutes and PRESTO...It`s adhered...

Just my 2 cents...
