Rogers XP10 Dynasonic 8x14

Don't worry- I didn't rewrap a beautiful condition Big-R Keller shell. This one had been seriously mauled by someone with a circular sander and a bottle of mahogany stain. I rescued it and the drum now has new edges, beds, Script badge, and wrap. [Attachment: 32566]

Thanks guys, I love this drum's sound and tuning versatility so much that it's eclipsed all the other snares in my arsenal as my main drum.

I have two Superten 8x14s, two Superten 6.5x14s, and three Dynasonic 6.5x14s. They are all great drums. And they do get used. I love those XP10 Maples.

I know, I've seen in your various Rogers threads around the internet- a truly gorgeous collection of drums! I do wish this one had remained natural maple rather than being butchered by the previous owner, but it gave me an opportunity to customise a drum I would have never touched had it been 100% original.

Looks awesome, but I gotta ask: Why put the badge at that extreme angle directly over the vent hole instead of putting it on it's own panel like Rogers would have?

I based the angle of the badge after the classic script badge snares of the early 60's. All the Tower and Luxor snares I've seen and played had the badge at this exact angle. The angle of the cursive is about 20 degrees from vertical, so placing it at this angle allows the "R" to sit straight up and down.

As for the placement of the badge over the vent, 1) the original "Big R" badge surrounded that vent anyway and 2) it made sense to me because when the snare drum is on a stand, the Rogers badge will point out towards the audience rather than be hidden behind the rack tom.
