I am always dreaming about this and that. I tend to wriet a lot about what i want to do and what i have done. Any how I was sitting and thinking about about my rack project and iy is going to cost me 500 to do what I want to do. Then I thought of the drums that I want to build and with the 500 I could get them or most by christmas. I wanted two more concert, a power tom and two 11" toms or do I do the cage over my head!! So i come to the place I trust, the people with all the knowledge and wisdom!!

If you can get your rack tubing powder coated, you could save a tiny bit of money and buy tubing from a metal fabrication supplier. That's what I did for one rack, and good powder coating is almost as durable as chrome.

I have a weird configuration I am wanting to flesh out: 22 and 24" kick drums, 12x11 double headed tom,6,8, 13, 14, 16" concert toms, 16 and 18" floor toms. I have the kicks, the double headed and one floor tom covered, and the others exist but are not covered, nor are they mounted at this point. Okay- the 18" floor tom is on order (custom build, as I can't find a Premier 18" floor tom). This doesn't count the high-pitched octoban set...

Writing it all out will help you overcome the obstacles you may encounter to get it all done.

I need to look into that fabrication part!! Where do I go for this, I never thought of that route!! All I am looking for is seven poles/tubes that are 68" tall and then the horizontals that are miscellaneous lengths.

But all of the drums that I want to do are custom!! I have been told numerous times that things do not exist!! I want a 17" Power, 11" toms, and 6" Acrylic concert toms!! I have also been told what is the sense to doing them, my answer is that I want it all and as long as I can find the parts I will do it custom!! I have tons of patience which is what makes all of this so worth it!!

Go to Gibraltar and try out their Rack Builder, get a configuration going so you'll know what the finished project will look like. Go from there for parts. Pipe can be had at your local Builders Supply.

If you are not going on world tour, just get black pipe, make it fit everything you want, weld up some fittings to adapt it to your drum mounts and then bead blast the whole works. Then, just paint it up with some Hard Hat primer and silver/aluminum paint and voila!

For extra sexy points, take a page from Bunnyman's book and tack up some towing chain to make cymbal arms! You can tack the stud onto the top link and even thread it if you are a wingnut on top kind of guy. You could even make long right angled ones that hold your ride cymbal perpindicular to terra firma, just like Nicko Mcbrain prefers his! Bead blast that whole thing too and paint it the same way!

The options are limitless..........Cool1

11 inch toms were common ... WAY back in the early days of jazz and the drum kit development. They lasted up into the 50s, I believe. So, your request is not unheard of.

Google metal fabrication suppliers in your area. Have handy the specs of the tubing ( I.e. outside diameter), then go from there. Most shoppes have a minimum amount they will sell you, but you will far surpass that with even a small rack. Many will even cut the lengths for you. Amazingly enough, you will see how much you will save doing it this way.

As far as 11" toms and 17" toms are concerned, someone like TC drumshells or c&c drums could make them for you.
