Alright! Whaddaya think? I love it. Turns out Mikey doesnt have the parts for the snare....but oh well. The snare sounds great as is. Sorta like a dyna with no frame. Its noisy, but still sounds great.

A D...Looking good! The shell layup for this kit is "9 ply compression shells with reinforcement rings". The snare is almost exactly as you describe, a KingBeat without the rail...sorry, a DynaSonic without the rail. This is what you are looking for:

There are enough TAMA cats here to get you a good idea of what you need to make it correct. Love dem tama's!

The lugs are a bit different, but that is typical for TAMA/Star in this transitional period. Your snare has the TAMA "Beavertail style". or properly known as...sorry, not listed in the available cats. Let me look into my collection of cay scans and see if I can find them.

No prob Mikey! We'll get em next time. Thanks for the tip jonni, though I think you are mistaken on the ply layup. The rings alone seem to be 10 ply. I count 14 if I really concentrate. 4, then the rings start.

Adam, I'm pretty sure this era is 9 ply, and the rings are 6 ply maple. Not to sound like you know who, but I am thinking we might want to look in our catalogs for the perfect answer. I happen to have a huge stash of cats on disc so I will look into it and send you whatever I can find. This is that weird transition period from Star to TAMA and things are not always as they seem. I had a 5 ply/rings snare from this era and it is a beast. The current owner won't even consider letting me have it back.

I'll see what I can find for you my man!

Well, I know it's here somewhere, but I can't find it. Contact DLuquett and see if he has the cat scans. It is the most complete collection of Star and early TAMA catalog collections I've seen.
