Tama CAR superstars. What are they worth?

Loading...

Iv finally completed the tear down and rebuild of these drums. The only blemish are a few paint chips where the 14 tom touched the bass drum. The drums always were stored and transported in the over-sized cases. I think they are made of delrin. But the hardware did ride piled on top of each other and do have some scratches etc. The heads are remo Gloss black and Hydraulic in used condition.

Whats the best way to sell these? One kit, two kits? Single drums? I hate to separate them but if that's the best way.. so be it. whats a fair price for them including the delrin cases?

8x9, 10x9, 12x11, 14x13, 16x16, 18x16, and 2)24x16 bass drums

Thanks!

You will absolutely get the most money bt selling them seperate.

I can tell you one thing, you might have a hard time getting top dollar for the bass drums since you are missing the correct matching outer rims and the interiors of the shells are painted black instead of the original CAR.

These are only guesses but I think if you sold them on ebay (which is where you will get the most money) the 8 inch will probably go for over $300, the 10 around $275, 12 and 14 around $100 (most common sizes so lowest in value), 16 $175-200, 18 $225-250. If the 24's were original they would probably be around $200 each. Those are the top end prices by themselves, it excellent shape with good clear pics and descriptions with no drum cases. I have no idea what your cases are worth. The double mount will sell for around $60, the single maybe $50 (those are pretty cool).

They could go higher or lower but those prices should be close. Remember, ebay will get 10% of the sale including the shipping costs and then another 5% from your paypal payment.

Good luck.

Thanks Ed. That's black armaflex foam on the inside of the bass drums, not paint. But Im not sure where I lost the original hoops.. I might just still have them.

I had a guy here on VDF interested, and I asked $1600 for everything. When he didn't reply I figured I was asking to much. Your values confirm what I was told and thats not including the cases.

Its a real shame that some of the best production drums ever made by Tama,in fact some of the best ever made period, don't command higher resale value.I know the e xtra size toms aren't very popular, but maybe someday vintage Superstars will worth a lot more money....but i still won't sell my 9600 series standard size thin shell with rerings in walnut satin finish.

I know how you feel. Now that mine are waxed and wenoled. Il store them before I give them away. E bay with reasonable reserve for each drum within one month from now. Iv never sold anything on E bay. Thinking I need to list every drum starting about 7pm Sunday night in 5 minute intervals. 7 day listings.

Its supply and demand. They made lots of Superstar drums in the 80's. Some of the unusual sizes can get up there in price. Last week a 3 piece Mahogany set sold for $920. It was a 18x14 bass drum, 14x14 floor tom and 12x8 rack tom. I consider those collector prices.

Have you priced any original Superstar Bell Brass snares lately?? Not many snares sell for more money than those.

I remember seeing it. I can't confirm it but I also heard the buyer did not go through but it sold for around $6000.

So what was so special about that kit?

It wasn't a kit. It was a Tama Bell Brass Mastercraft snare drum. The Superstar badged versions are made with either a 5mm or 3mm solid brass shell. Its a legendary drum.
