Hi everyone,

I have these two snares that I've had for a fair while but was wondering what they are. Both are 10 lug steel shells.

One of them has dual snare strainers and is 14x8 in size.

The other is a 14x5, with the only thing that is written on it is "Japan" on the snare throw off.

Thanks in advance.

Your 5x14 snare is made from the mid-60's most likey a Pearl made drum remove one of the lugs it may say Pearl on the inside of it..You 8x14 snare is from the mid 80's copy of a Pearl most likey M.I.T..Mikey

Okay, I'm relatively new at this, and have learned most of my identification skills from this very forum, but to me, the 5 x 14 does not look like Pearl. There are no apparent lug inserts, which would make me think possibly 'Hoshino', and it seems to me that most 60s era, Pearl stencils had the rounder, Slingy inspired lugs - I'd also guess 70s. Looks to be in rough shape as well, probably not worth squat, unless you can get a decent sound out of it... but then I'm no 'guru'.

Thanks for the reply's guys. The "5" is in rough shape for sure, but I'm not after value just cool tone which comes from some unlikely sources sometimes.

Will see how I go.
