Did you pick it up new, and what year is that?

I think these BBs are from the late 90's but don't know when they started. I didn't buy it new. Can't remember where I did find it as I have had it for around 8 years. Ludwig also offered a 5x14 and a 3x13 in this series. The drums came in a nice hard case. The original head was a Ludwig Rocker Heavy series. Still on the drum and even though I am not a fan of heavier heads, it is perfect for the drum.

Some of these drums were engraved by John Aldridge and some by Reid Smith. This one is a Reid Smith version. Very nice work.

I knew you would like it. A bronze supra is a great drum and a good alternative that can be picked up for a pretty reasonable price.

I have always coveted the engraved BB's, but in the early eighties I couldn't afford one so I got a plain-jane BB (funny thing is the price wasn't that big of a gap but in those days even 100-bucks seemed like a million to me).

I had put drumming away in the late eighties to pursue an alternative livelyhood and when these became available in the mid-90's I saw no reason to run after one - Dooh! When I rekindled the passion a few years ago I started shopping for them I was shocked at how much even the plain-janes were going for. I ended up buying an 100th Anniversary BB for less than what I saw some of the the "vintage" 70'/80's BB's were selling for.

I love your drum, it's such a fine example! I would really like to pick one up - a mid-90's like your's and also a late70's -early 80's engraved BB.

Thanks Hoppy. I just checked, and mine came from the limited edition engraved line that was introduced in 1991. Was it that long ago? At the time, I believe they were going in the $700-$800 range. Higher now. I used to see them offered on a regular basis, but they have dried up.

The 70's versions really took off for both the non engraved and the engraved. I have always wanted one of those in a 6.5x14.

Good luck with your hunt. Congratulations on your 100th anniversary. Might have gone for the 100th engraved myself, but went for an original 20's era version instead.

I was going to go for one those too, but what I know about them you could fill a thimble so I figured it would be too easy for me to be over-sold, especially if restoration was needed, thus making the 100th Anniversary model a very easy choice.

Yep, I was gonna say 1991 or '92 as I remember a friend of mine picking up a 6.5x14 and a 3.5x14 around that time.
