WFL Supreme Concert Snare

Loading...

I picked this snare up last night, it's a 1948-1952 6.5"x14" WFL Supreme Concert snare. It looked pretty rough, but came out well considering. I wanted to keep the original finish, so I tried a product called "Restor-A-Finish". It's supposed to fill in scratches and has some pigment in it as well. It worked great, and I followed it up with some paste wax. The nickel hardware was in good condition except for a little rust on the strainer and butt plate, but they cleaned up ok.

This drum came with the original slunk snare side head and snare wires, but the slunk head was broken. I left the original snare wires on for posterity, but they need to be replaced to be a good players drum. Does anyone know the value of this drum? It looks like Pioneers aren't selling for much, and these are just the WFL version. I'm wondering if these are worth more or less. I'll be selling it, since I really don't need another snare. It just seemed worthy of rescue, so I picked it up.

Here are some "before" pictures:

I'd say it's worth 200-300 considering its in pretty good shape. I have to say all your threads are interesting as i try and do the same kind of restorations and deal finds. where do you find your deals? I'm constantly on craigslist and ebay which are good sources. Any local places you find your drums at? I live in the midst of the seattle music scene so i'm sure there's deals that never get online that i'm missing. Any places a jackpot for vintage drums?

Thanks man! I'm glad someone is enjoying my posts, I have a lot of fun doing this stuff. I mostly get my stuff on craigslist, but sometimes ebay or music shops. It's just a matter of checking often. For every good find I get, there are three that got snapped up 30 min after they're posted.

That's about the value that I figured. It's for sale now, and I'm asking $250. It's on CL, but I keep meaning to put it up here. I'll try to do it today.
