Istanbul Grand Bizaar.

Loading...

Hello all,

I'm gigging in Istanbul tonight and spent the day at the famous Grand Bizaar. I was naturally looking out for any shops selling cymbals. Man they are still cheap here.

I stumbled across a small shop selling cymbals, and this guy had piles of them.

I spotted a set of Vintage 14" Zildjian K hi-hats in the corner of the room. They are medium in weight and sound bloody great. The guy said they are hard to find in Turkey now and wouldn't budge much on the price. So I had to pay £280 for them.

I walked away a happy man.

Will post a pic when I get back to london.

Don't want to rain on his parade, but I hope they are legit and not forgeries.

oh man I hope they aren't fake also.

They do sound great though which I guess is the most important thing. Are there any obvious ways to tell if they are not the real deal.

Trademarks and overall appearance. Check for "signatures" too. The fakes don't have them.

The stamp looks lik a new stamp from late '60s to early '70s, or a newer new stamp from the mid '70's. The lathing and hammering looks odd to my eyes for an old K, . It looks a bit more like a Bosphorous to me. The text also seems much too deeply impressed, especially compared to the arabic above it, and I can't make out the star. The disparities I see may be related to the photo it self, so I won't try to make a final call. I'll let Drumaholic be the final arbiter.

Wasn't there a thread several months ago about a found stash of supposedly NOS K's up for sale?

I think there was also some discussion about the fact that it looked like they read ZILOJIAN in the stamp. Looking at the photo of the stamp you have kind of looks that way....Of course I'm certainly NOT in any way, well versed in these matters.

Yeah,

These are not right. But they do sound good.

Bit bummed about it. But its the sound that counts in the end..... right.

Somebody tell me I'm right.
