You can find the Omnisphere holders around. I may have an extra one here.. Be carreful if you buy one unseen tho as some of them do have 1 inch shafts. BTW: Premier used the same post girth (1 1/8" ish) in the 90s. (The original APK/XPK holders) . If you can find one of those it'll work well.

Cool, thanks for the tips. I contacted the seller, and he has told me that it is 1 and 1/8th. Now I just have to figure out if I pounce or wait for the high end model that has the little handles instead of the wingnuts.
This video is cool and it features Lenny White playing early 80's "Aqua" Superstars.

So I actually managed to track one of the high end mounts with the little hands for a good price locally. When I transferred my 13" tom from a snare stand to the mount, however, I feel like I lost some resonance. I have typically heard that snare stands have less resonance than mounts, which is the opposite of what I am experiencing. The snare stand was holding the tom by the bottom hoop. Does this seem odd to anybody else, or does it make sense for the type of mounts that older drums have?
Thanks,
Neel
Have you A/B'd the drums on and off of the mount? This would be the only way to be certain you're not hearing things. Make certain you hit the drum the same way for each recording.
I dunno- I tend to think that mounts on the shell definitely take away resonance. Gauger does have a new suspension mount specifically for mounting in a snare basket, so apparently people have said that snare baskets take away resonance.

I had not tested the difference back to back, so it could just be a failure of memory. It might also be the case that people who are comparing snare baskets to mounts are only considering toms that have isolation mounts, which are standard even on entry level kits these days. Maybe snare baskets are better than typical on-shell mounts, but not as free as isolation mounts.
I'll post an update when I do some further comparisons.

It depends on the isolation mount. Some cheapos actually choke the drum!!!! Yes, I have tested this; being an OCD-type, I have done a LOT of A/B comparos over the years...
In my blunt opinion, the best isolation mounts are the Yamaha and the DW, as they don't choke the rim. But this can become a princess and the pea sort of thing.
I would think a snare basket would choke a drum's resonance could be attributed to how much rubber was on the legs of the basket, as well as how small the drum is and how tight you have the snare basket.

What year did VA leave Ludwig for Tama?,
Was it during his Black Sabbath tenure or with Dio??.
I'm also looking for a single mount 1-1/8 tom mount for a 70s/80s Tama kit. I used to have one that looked like a Gibraltar one, but all the Gibraltar ones I see are 7/8. I've been searching endlessly and can't seem to find another one like it! Any idea what that might have been from?
