50's A Zildjian

I bought a vintage Ludwig kit and this little baby was one of the first things that caught my attention. It has a very polished finish to it.

Oh it sounds killer as a ride or crash very dark sounding..

It's a full 19" I don't have any way of weighing it but I'd say it was on the lite side.

The Stamp is about 1 7/8" from top to bottom.

That looks great. My old theory about the late 50's cymbals was that these were machine hammered on the underside and hand hammered on top, but I now no longer believe this to be the case. Cymbals like this one tell why. This is obviously hand hammered just as a trans stamp is, but with the only exception being the bell. This was pressed in and not hammered in as in the trans stamps.

Thanks it sounds amazing...

When I talked to the guy he said the kit had Paiste cymbals and one Zildjian. I had a feeling the Paiste were the Ludwig Standards and maybe the Z was a 60's he added later. I thought I would just flip the cymbals and stands and keep the kit. Well I'm definitly keeping this beauty..

The Paiste are the Ludwig Standards..

Ah yes, a large stamp. I have to admit that fact escaped my notice at first. And it's an older type too. And being an older type, this one is not too far removed from the transitional stamp era. So that helps explain why it looks so much like one.

When it comes to large stamps I'm still a bit unsure about their proper order, but based on the best available information that I've been able to come up with, my current thinking is that would be around '54 to '55.
