World max bass drum hoop?

i am restoring a set of ludwigs and haven't found a reasonably priced ludwig 24 inch bass drum hoop. I have one slingerland and one ludwig (I want them to be the same)

set is a 60's set. will these work ok?

That hoop doesn't have an inlay groove. You'll need one that does.

I bought an unfinished hoop from drummaker.com for my 20" Club Date bass, and it's fine. I'm not sure if the inlay groove is exactly the same width as an original Ludwig would be, but I'm not that picky.

Kits:
1950s Gretsch Name Band in Midnight Blue Pearl (13/16/22/14sn)
1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates rewrapped in Black Diamond Pearl (12/15/20)

Also, check to see if your kit has original 1 1/2" or 1 3/4" hoops. There was a difference in them at one time, I don't know the timeline for the change, however.

Not to most people. The one's that would notice are mostly those others like us, that "collect" and trade. The rest of the world wouldn't know the difference if it slapped 'em in the face. Many people go that route when trying to decide if the cost is really worth it in the short term. If you were setting them up for re-sale, then yeah, get the right ones, but for a player, they're your drums, get 'em onstage.

They also offer 12 ply hoops for 25.00, so a 12 ply, 1 3/4" is a few bucks more than a 10 ply 1 1/2" hoop (18.00).

These are never going to be worth any money, nor are they ever going to be sold. I am using the original claws, I just want to make sure they will fit. Should I go for the 1 3/4 or the 1 1/2? 10 or 12?

Depends. If the original is 1 3/4, your pedal, if it is era correct for that drum, if it is a Speed King, will fit better. This is why some S/K pedals don't fit some Ludwig bass drum hoops. When Ludwig changed from one to the other 1 1/2 v 1 3/4, they also changed the specs on the clamp end of the S/K...little known fact. As far as 10 or 12, it depends on how high you tune, honestly. If you tune your bass really high, the 12 ply would be the better option as the 10 may warp under torque. I found this out because my bass, a 22, was giving me fits, so I cranked down on the res head and noticed a slight amount of deflection, especially between the claws. Truth? For the difference, I'd go with 12 ply if I were to replace mine, but I don't need to because I got it all squared away by properly seating the new head. After that, the warpage went away.

What color is your kit, BTW? Mine is WMP, so I lacquered mine in a golden honey homemade color that has aged wonderfully in under two years.

Here is a link to my kit. It isn't any color right now. Somebody (before I got them in 1988) removed the original gold sparkle wrap, filled the reso head holes with filler, and wrapped them black. (hence the reason I said they will never be worth anything)

They spray painted the one hoop, the other is from a slingerland. I have to inspect, maybe I can use those, not sure. I got the set and it didn't have a front head, I robbed this slingerland set I got for 50 bucks and used the claws, hoop and head from it.

This set has stayed this way and sounded ok for 99% of my life. I just joined a band and these weren't going to cut it, so I got a Sonor Phil Rudd shell pack. I changed the heads and they sound great. At least I thought they did until another forum told me they were ****ty because they weren't maple and (not the kit they have).

Back to the ludwigs, I originally was going to get the cheap wrap from ebay, but will be getting wrap from jammin sams, either gold sparkle or the citrus mod orange.

I am not going to be using a speedking, most likely a DW :) But not the old crappy one in the pictures. DO you know where that DW pedal Originated?

I am going to put the mount back on the Bass drum, but I usually used the mismatched stand bottom to actually hold the drums.

I am not going for a total restore, just a nice playable kit I can give my boy. I just picked up the snare for this set (67/68 Rogers Dynasonic) for 80 bucks.

In progress pics ( I got ludwig claws and t-rods to replace those slingerlands:

This looks great with the non inlay hoops, I may just get them and and stain them black, so you can see the wood grain.
