unknown nickel (?) snare

Hello all, this is my first post on this forum.

I need help with a snare below. I've been searching for any info about lugs, strainer, screws etc, but couldn't find ANY data about this drum that would help with identification.

It looks quite interesting, though it's rather in bad shape. I bought it recently without skins for training purporses. It was less than five euros :)

Any idea?

PS. Sorry if I'm asking in a wrong section, dunno if this snare is non US or is there any specific place for this kind of question on this forum.

PS2. Vintage Drum Identification wasn't helpful in this case.

^^

Thanks man! Gotta try it out on some quality skins. Maybe some restoration would do the job. This snare looks like a decent drum, so perhaps I could use it as a parrarel snare.

Cheers!

It was less than five euros :)

Hi and Welcome

Really funny cost, unexpected surprise - lucky...:) Not nickel - it's chromed shell, hoops & etc.

It's a good snare - main version model line near mid 1972 - 1984.

The best way is searching in our TROWA / TACTON threads - you can find an interesting posts.

Also there is very much information on German 'drummerforum.de', 'musiker-board.de' and Ukranian 'drummer.org.ua'.

George.

its 8 double ended lugs. i do own the very same drum and it is a very fine playing drum. The only defect that I have found with the basic design of these drums(it is the same, going way back into the 50's with the then called Trowa) is that the hard plastic cams that rotate on the shaft and cause the snarewires to lift and drop can become loose due to the stripping of the very small threads that receive the locking setscrews and the studs can come free out of the plastic snare ends. The cams can easily be drilled and retapped for a slightly larger setscrew but the snare wires are whole other thing. overtightening can be disastrous because the plastic snare ends becomes brittle over time. my solution has been to make new ones out of all metal extra long marching drum snarewires.i just solder the old stud to the metal end. Tacton drums by and large are very good, if not great drums.
