Another color you don't find often is white. I spoke to Vinnie Appice awhile back, as he was selling off some of his "left over" pieces...some still brand new in plastic wrappers! I helped him get the word out to the 500 or so members of my Tama Supe site.

He was a Tama sponsored drummer and they built a special kit(s) for him which were white on the outside and inside. As with NP, Vinnie also played a fairly large kit. Here's a picture of this white kit:

All the white Superstars were white on the inside, just like the black and CAR drums were the same inside and out (however, only maybe not quite as shiny on the inside)

Okay, sounds good to me. All I can go by is what Vinnie told me, that he had specified the way he wanted his drums made, which included white inside....ahh, who knows, swelled head maybe??? :D

I bought a Superstar kit brand new in '82 (still have the catalogue but not the drums unfortunately). It was Supermaple in colour, sizes 24, 8, 10, 12, 13,14, 16 (bigger kits were the fashion back then!). I have never had a kick drum since to equal the sound of that one. Enjoy it!

hmm the tom mount diameter is a strange one.ive got a one owner super maple with 20X14 and the tom post is slightly thinner than it ought to be,doesnt really bother me but i do find it strange.a small price to pay for owning one of the best drum kits ever made!

That looks like the kit from the picture that I had. If I recall correctly, the pieces he was selling back then were the extra pieces he seemed to have stored in his house.

You can see clearly the white inside coating in the floor tom. I'm not an expert in white Supes, but as with candy apple red, this color and black were offered later in the series, somewhere around 1984 or 85. I have no reason to doubt his word when I spoke to him, so for me, it is possible he spec'd a white kit out for Tama before they offered the kit to the public as one of their sponsored drummers, similar to what Neal Peart did. He said he specified the white inside and, quite possibly, Tama decided to offer the white kits that way. I'm not sure with black whether the inside was sprayed black as well.

I've spoken to other Tama drummers, one of whom was a very early sponsored drummer who lived in Japan. His name escapes me, but he was the drummer who was on the brochure that came with the early kits. I had an opportunity to pick up one of those brochures years ago, but passed on it for some reason...getting tired of having all that paper no doubt! :(

I actually just bought a set of superstars this weekend and had the same issue. I am really excited about them. The tom mount that they had was a single tom mount which I was later told (by someone other than the seller) actually belonged to a later tama model. The pipe almost fits, but is just loose enough to move a bit when I hit the kick.

I have been keeping an eye out for a new mount, and that high end model looks really slick. There is just something about those little handles that really makes it look like it means business.

Were there ever any superstar mounts that said "Omnisphere" on top? I have found a guy selling one at what could be a pretty reasonable price, and he claims that it is from an 83 or 84 year superstar. The pictures that I have seen of superstar tom mounts have so many slight variations that I am not sure what to look for.
