Red Vistalite Bass Restore

Loading...

Hey gang.

I picked up a nice Red Vistalite 14x22 today and it needs WORK.

Some Sarah Palin spray painted this this an opaque reddish that kills the see through effect and needs to go. What is a safe way that I can strip that off? Palin should have stayed with stripping too. BA DONKA BOOM.

I only see two half inch cracks by the lugs holes that see minor. Is there a way that I can treat that as well?

The pic of the B/O badge shows the difference with the spray paint. DOH

Most spray jobs are cheap spray paint cans. I have used Grafitti paint remover from Home Depot on a Rogers BD interior. It is pretty tame chemically, and came in a manual pump bottle. I didn't leave it one long enough to effect the original shell paint. Not sure about vistalite shell, but maybe try on a small section first.

Goof-Off mixed 50-50 with water should take the paint off..Not a thing you can do about the cracks i have seen people drill a small hole at the end of the crack if the lug cover's it,but i would not do that.I will say one thing when you go to put the lug back on the drum DON"T put it on to tight you maybe will crack the shell more....Mikey

Can't believe someone would do that to a vista! Good luck with it. Nail polish remover may work too, but I'm not sure if it will effect the shell. Having said that, false nails are acrylic so may be ok?!

An auto glass repair may work for the cracks. See this short thread. This was a repair of a shattered type ding in the wrap.

You don't want anything to cause that shell to flex until the cracks are rebonded. Check out the thread that starts, "My worst nightmare." He used Weld-On to repair cracks, and it turned out pretty well. I'm getting ready to do some Vista repairs using that process, but haven't used it yet so double-check this with someone before trying it.
