Year of Zildjian Catalog - ?

From mcjnic

I purchased one of Larry Londin's kits a few years back. I sold off most all of it but kept the high hats. They are SWEET!!! I will hang on to those. The snare went on ebay and the kit is right down the road at a church. Nice kit.

Wow! You sold Larrie's drums?Violin DW? Are the hats heavy 15"

I got to say that this has been a fun thread for me since I normally do not get this much response to a catalog date. Cool Dude

Just in case you want to see the rest of my Zildjian Literature then visit the cymbal site.

If you see a catalog or item of interest without a date then please fill in the blanks!

I'm not a collector. I am a player. The hats are Light 15's. Nice. They do everything...and then some. For the record, the kit was not a DW. It was a Slingerland, as was the snare. It was Larry's. It even had his name stenciled on the cases. My brother came by it due to his business in Nashville (he owns a music video production company). The kit was nice but the wrong sizes for me (22, 10, 12, 16). It just felt strange with two high toms. The snare was nice but not my cup o' tea. That's the only thing that isn't here in town. Regret??? Not yet. Maybe later. Anyway, nice cymbals. Wouldn't trade 'em for any other hats. They are my go-to hats in my hat stash.

I'm going to say 1979. Like mcjnic, I graduated high school in 1980, and this catalog got carried along to classes to mark up with my fantasy setup when things got boring.

I distinctly remember buying "Dream Police" one afternoon after school, then picking up this catalog later at a music store while I waited for my friend to finish his guitar lesson. I know this was some time during the fall of 1979.

Note also the fancy Slingerland boom tilter pictured with some of the cymbals. It wasn't in the 77-78 catalog, which was also part of my fantasy library.

9x Slingerland New Rock 50N 12-13-16-22 with 170 (Super S-O-M) holder

• 1977 Black Diamond Pearl + 5x14 SD (gold badge, Rapid strainer)
• 1976 Black Cordova
• 1975 Silver Sparkle + 5x14 SD (Rapid strainer)
• 1974 Chrome + 5x14 COB TDR and 6.5x14 COW Zoomatic SDs

• 1971 Walnut (gold badges) + 5x14 TDR SD
1x Rogers Powertone Londoner V 12-13-16-22
• 1972 Butcher Block + 1979 big R Dynasonic SD

Zildjian sent me that catalog in early 1980 along with the Cymbal Setup of Famous Drummers book for that time. The cymbal setup book is really neat speaking of "Dream Police".It has a picture of Bun E. Carlos playing a Slingerland kit.

You want to talk about stupid?Ditto for the Platinum and Titanium series. Makes as much sense as glass coating.

And how about Zildjian Pitch Blacks? Who are they marketing all this crap to? Kids I guess.

Speaking of "Dream Police," Bun E was touring with a huge black double bass Slingerland set. I remember expressing disappointment to my guitar-playing friend when we went to see the show because Bun E wasn't waving his arms around like a maniac. The man has amazing wrist action, but as a dumb 17-year-old, I was too young to recognize genius in the flesh.

I have since seen the light.

YEAH,Bun E. was my idol when I was learning to play drums. I thought it was so cool playing drums with a cigarette hanging out of you mouth like he did back then.

hey David -

Thanks for adding this catalog - However, when clicking on each small image, the page does not open and show the image in a larger view, So its hard to see what's in there :-(

Any ideas when will you add a Java script event to pop up the image in its full size when clicked?

Cheers,

Tommy
