Agreed. Ludwig today live off of Ringo(Fab Four) and Bonzo's names too much. Bonham was a great Drummer I adore his playing, and I love Led Zep. But I will go further and say Bonhams name is overused in Drumming generally. Amber Vista's and Green Sparkle Kits aside. Any kit ever with a 26" BD or a Gong is "Bonham". And on that there's Bonham Triplets. This is something I've notice creep in over the years. It used to be Gadd triplets once upon a time, or just Triplets.

Excellent point, The finish was very cool and still selling today for a retro look. But to pay $2100.00 for a $400.00 snare drum is just plain nonsense. Ringo Star was only able to play a portion of the Beatles songs because of lack of ability, and shows everyone that if he can make it, just about anyone with minimal drummer/musical knowledge could with the right bandmates. The college students that taught me Jazz and Blues as a kid in 68 said that it would be embarrasing to have such a limited or shallow depth of drum beats or grooves to draw on. That was enough to give an 8 year old the motivation to practice my blisters off, and never be like him or to emulate anything associated with him, so $2100.00 has to be for the finish and not the drummer...As for the LM402 ? Great snare drum, and those made in the 70s for the most part, had tapered snare beds which made a huge difference in sympathetic snare buzz or the lack of it rather...still a bit high, but not too far off the mark for 70s supra's. Also most of it was Bonhams technique and not so much wether his snare drum was a Bronze, Brass or Al.

Sorry with all due respect. I just want to point out that Ringo played on all of the drum tracks for the Beatles. He was in fact a gigging pro Drummer around Liverpool before he started with the Beatles. I agree he don't have insane Jazz chops, but his musical touch made for wonderful art that helped create the sound. I also realise the others in the Beatles were handy too and probably advised him on what to do, but thats what bands do anyway.

But, Ringo did not play on all the tracks. There was a session drummer for the first tracks. Paul laid down tracks on some of the White Album tunes. Etc etc etc

This is fairly well documented in the Beatle tracks book where it lists each and every session along with who played what.

Actually, no. That title belongs to Evan Macenthorpe out of Toad Suck, AR. He participated in that Berkley study back in 79. They figured out a method for quantifying talent and applied the variables to the drummer. It was a massive study that ran for about three years. Every stick swinger known and unknown was fed into the calculations. Evan took it by a margin of 0.00783 percentage points. It is updated every seven years. Evan still holds the title.

For the record, Ringo lost out in the second round of computations. He was beat out by Sister Francine Guanimire, the drumming nun.

So Ringo didn't play on the radio version of Love Me Do. He didn't play on Back in the USSR and Dear Prudence because Paul was trying so hard to show everyone how great he was he stepped on Ringo's junk. But alas, Ringo played on everything else that was cool by the Beatles that had drums on it. He wasn't technically chops-good that is true but that man could groove and make people dance with his mersey beat. Ticket to Ride, I feel fine, Rain, A Day in the Life, Lady Madonna, I want you, In my life all swing and have cool parts for the drums. I am a Beatle geek too and proud of it. Ringo couldn't play Bonham or Gadd triplets but he did play on 26 number 1 hits. He, like Bonzo, were irreplacable to their bands. Bonzo because no one played quite like him or sounded that way and Ringo because of what he brought to the Beatles in the way of his personality. Other guys could have played with the Beatles but he was the only guy that could have been humble enough to put up with John and Paul and remain grounded.
