80's Slingersland thumbscrew size ?

Loading...

Just got into a 80's slingerland kit that has more than a few problems.

The 16" floor tom had the bottom rim removed, and was rack mounted. I am missing the bottom rim...the three legs and the set screws for the legs. I can get the 16" rim off of ebay... the legs too... but the set screws, I was going to just get a set from the HW store. For the life of me I can't seem to find the right size screw for the hole !

I also missing a screw that is on the base drum tom mount. It's used to provide the clamping tension for the tom tube. It' slightly larger than what is used for the tension rods.

And lastly... tuning. Anyone have advice for tuning these 30 year old shells ?

Help ! I'll post pics soon.

Thanks Alex

Alex, Welcome to the forum, I may have a cos 16" rim I'll check sorry don't have the other parts your after. are you sure the slingerlands you have are 80's? Use remo white coated ambassadors top and bottom, I like powerstroke 3's on the batter side and either white coated or smooth white ambassadors on the reso side, I use a ton of different head combos but the ones I've recommended will have you smiles for miles. post the pics it will be a big help. also you can post for the parts your after in the wanted section here on the VDF.

Thanks! I'm fairly sure the main kit (base/12/13/16) is from the early 80's (silver grey tag with 7XXXXX serial numbers) The 14/15 toms are from the late 80's early 90's. All are chome-o-wood.... and quite scratchy.

Attached pics show the purchase... everything in the picture (including pedals/crash/ride/hat/throne) for $250 !!

I'll get some pics showing the hardware that I'm looking for.

So is the hardware English or metric? Look at the picture.... see the screw that is missing? It is not the same size as the tension rods.

I have found a few screws that will begin to thread.... but it runs into resistance after a few turns. I'm thinking the thread pitch is an odd size ?

Any help will be appreciated !

Alex, I have a similiar set from the HSS period. I stripped one of the set screws so I needed a replacement. I took the set screw to my local Drum shop and they gave me a match. It was a tiny bit longer than the original, but it screwed in perfectly. . . .James
