bass drum conversion (17" WFL tenor drum)

I have been accumulating drums lately so that I do not have to constantly move stuff around between my home and the 2 places I rehearse at.

I have a 17" WFL tenor drum that is a cannon and would make a fine bass drum. I saw the DW 9909 riser thing:

that would work great, but I was wondering if there were any other solutions out there that would be cheaper and yet still allow me to use a large drum as a kick without drilling any holes into the drum?

I tell you, I tried the Pearl Jungle conversion kit, and you end up buying so many extra parts to make it work. It only works with modern drums, as well. Get the DW riser and be done with it. I have one, and DO NOT regret the purchase. You will end up with two or three of them, especially if you end up wanting to play other foot-operated instruments. It is truly universal and not a hassle to use.

Why used a drum riser, wood hoops on the 17" drum and used a bass drum pedal all you have to do is cut down the rod on the beater....Mikey

I would imagine 17" wood hoops are not easy to find, nor 17" heads for that matter. I converted a 16x12 using the Pearl Jungle kit. I just screwed the Pearl tom mount to the shell rather than using the recommended ISS bracket. Worked fine.

Yeah, I checked before I got the drum a year or so ago and really only Remo makes 17" heads.

I will probably go with the DW thing as I like the idea of leaving the drum as-is so it's still ready to be used as a tom whenever I want. (It sounds amazing.)

You can fine 17" wood hoops or make them yourself..As far as heads i have new old stock remo 17" heads all types at 10.00 each + shipping...Mikey
