Little Blue Onyx Star

Jonnistix nailed it by posting the link to the pic of the catalogue.

Indeed, for me it's also the very first time to see such a junior kit.

I was aware of the catalogue pages before, but I thought always: such a kit would NEVER have survived the youth of an ambitious young drummer - and even if it would have survived: it surely would have been modified by a 'modern cool black wrap' (either mistreated by sprayed-on colour or with an adhesive foil).

Absolutely great and rare find, congrats!

Hope it stays in this condition for the next 50 years or so!

Wow, that's it (catalog pic) but no floor tom. The catalog mentions it was avail. in red, white or blue pearl only (for '72 Tama MidgetDrumJr.) but this is a Star w/the blue agate pearl. The seller said there was no floor tom with this kit. This was a C/List find. The gentleman said he was cleaning out under his stairs where they've thrown things for years. He found a box of 8track tapes, old albums and this kit. He said if he finds the bass mount cymbal arm, he'd call me. I see the dimensions I put are a little off. It's a 10x4 snare and a 9x6 tom. Thanks everyone very much for all the input.

Someone tipped me to a similar kit on C/List in E Conneticut but it's an Audition brand?

Here's one for sale in England. It has the floor tom and snare too. Looks quite original and 100 quid seems fair enough.

These are Star but use the "Drum Mate" type of hardware. The "lugs", if you can call them that, are one of two systems. Either a single tension or dual tension. One screws into the other side, either like a nut or threads in the hoop itself, like in the good ol' daze, the other into a threaded hole in the "lug" itself. These are really not lugs as most of know them, they are more of a bracket attached to the side of the shell.

Like jonni said, in this case they're just brackets that are like a guide for the tension rods and screw into a half moon shaped threaded nut under the bottom hoop which looks to be a stamped out piece of the same material as the pedal (last pic). Internal snare wires similar to a tone control knob to keep the kiddies from destroying them I guess.

The 9" heads came in. Now just need to make a cymbal arm for the bass mount and fabricate something for the mini cymbal stand base. What might be a couple good mini cymbals for this? I was thinking of getting a 10x10 tom and converting it to a mini floor tom maybe...lol. This would be a cool kit to bring to the woods for a little jam outside..

the owner of the one on ebay.uk is threatening to burn his if nobody buys it. BIN 85quid or 10 quid start. Someone in Blighty buy this please. It's too cute to burn.

Good work Diamond. I suggested it to the friend that I sold my Star kit to (he's heading back to England in a couple of weeks) as I thought they'd make a nice pair (sorta mother and child like) but I suspect he thinks I'm mad...he may be right.
