5 tom tom's but there like concert toms no bottom head. 2 floor toms, and 24 inch kick. Is it worth it to convert them to regular tom toms?

These appear to be a 70's set ('75?) judging by the pointed badges and labeling. Note the lack of re-rings so that would mean 6ply. They came originally as a concert tom configuration; someone switched over from the clip mounts to Modular hardware to give it the 'modern' 80's look. DOH The good news is bass drum & floor toms have the classic double head set up.

It would cost about $50 (+ shipping) PER DRUM to add a bottom head to each rack tom, so about $250(assuming that you do all the measuring/drilling work yourself). Is it worth it? Only if you plan to keep them as your own. But don't expect to increase the value of the set by 'adding on' to it. Probably best to clean them up, get 2 sets of FT legs, and buy some heads. Then you are looking at about $200 to get these playable.

No re-rings, modular, probably late 70s. The pointy b/o badge on the bass could be the only one? Plus it has larger arc spurs. 6 ply shells. Nice! Clean them up and put some heads on them! Play like no tomorrow. Oops I see more pointy badges.. That looks like a very early modular setup with some clip mounts on some of the concert toms. Could be as early as '76 but with the no-re-rings on the shells, I wouldn't know if it were any older. The paper tags. Is there a date code on them?

I am not one who favors converting concert toms, especially when they're the mini classic lugs and normal double sided toms have larger classic lugs. Plus the sound of the concert toms is still a good sound. So you could either clean them up and sell them and then get an original set with classic rack toms or keep them and play them!

I special ordered some Ludwig concert toms in 1974/75 school year and mine had re-rings, small lugs, pointy badges, and a gray coating on the inside like you see in bass boats. I forget the name they used for it. Still have and use them. Then in 1980 I ordered 2 more and they were natural on the inside, no re-rings, with large lugs and a silver metal rim around the bottom. Still have and use those. My 1980's look more like the one's in the pic except for the silver metal rim around the bottom. Also the 1980's had the wrap rivets. Still nice wood, sound, and a heavy drum.

Okay I am looking at heads and floor tom legs. I measured the opening of the mounts at 10mm. The floor toms legs come in either 9.5mm or 10.5 mm not sure which ones to get. wadsmoe was right, gonna cost me about $200 to get them playable. Also looking to get some cymbal arms to go with them. 3 of those modular cymbal arms gonna cost me like $120 more.

Great kit!!!!!

I personally would not do anything but clean them up, rehead and play them. I have a set of Smoke Vistalite toms that sound great with Pinstripes.

I also have a similar wood set as your with the mix of modular and clip style mounts like you have. Mine is an 11 piece kit. The bass drums have the Modular mounts. The original owner for mine said he ordered to bass drums with different sizes and he had them send him a different one instead so he ended up with 24 and 25 basses. However, the bass modular mounts are in different locations for reason. One of them is closer to the front of the drum, whereas the other is closer to the middle.

Here's a pic so you can see how mini lugs look on the bottom of the drums. My big drums are power toms with clip mounts, where as the 2 smaller ones are modular mounts. I'm not sure why the original owner got them this way other than a factory screw up possibly???

Before you buy new heads you will want to double check your sizes, as I don't recall Ludwig making an 11" tom.

My sizes are:

26, 24, 10 ,12 ,13, 14, 14 Coliseum snare, 15, 16, 18 floor, 20 floor.

The 9.5 mm legs are the ones you need. BTW, sweet kit.

eBay can be a good resource for used heads. Trick is to find a grouping of similar heads and buy in bulk to save on shipping. Don't buy 3 heads from 3 different sellers, unless shipping is free, then buy extras. --

9.5 mm is actually 3/8" which is the size for any pieces that fit in the older style Ludwig mounts: this includes shell mount cymbal arms, FT legs, L-rods for toms, & bass drum spurs.

I've owned alot of drums over the years and gigged some with the old BOP kit,but comparatively, I spent about 15 years straight doing road gigs with my good ole 6ply kit. They are superior for LIVE because of the projection. It kind of makes sense to take the "work-horse" out on the road and leave the vintage stuff at home.
