choosing white marine pearls

This might help those looking for white marine pearl wraps for there projects.

The bottom drum is a 66 ludwig with original finish.the middle drum is a pre-yellowed white marine pearl from drum makers and the top is a white marine pearl from jammin sams.

That is an excellent comparison...and very helpful! I still like the original, aged 66 Ludwig, but the pre-yellowed from Drum Makers looks pretty good too. The Jammin' Sams, uh not so good. Thanks

yes, I wanted a wooden snare to match my 66 ludwigs. Im tired of the superphonic it came with. I wanted the finish to match the best it could. I think the yellowed is the best bet, better would be of course finding an original piece from a doner drum.i hope this helps

No wonder why the Jammin' Sam stuff is on sale. It actually looks like a dead-ringer for the White Onyx Pearl that is on the low-end OCDP kits.

I would love to own some WMP drums. I have to agree the middle drum looks good now, and would go with that on a re-wrap, but I bet that original WMP on that original floor tom looked amazing when it was new. A lot better than the others.

Don't forget about the White Onyx Pearl that was on the Pacific CX series drums. THAT stuff looked as close to the original Ludwig finish as I've seen yet!

My DW kit is wrapped in the WMP that's on the middle drum. It's a good look--kind of quilted and changes colors and "prisms" in the light. Classy and yet flashy...

Yes- the PDP drums wrapped in their White Onyx Pearl looks as close as dammit to the Luddy stuff...

I like the Jammin' Sam stuff- it's just absolutely NOTHING like the Luddy stuff, but EXACTLY like the OCDP Venice stuff...

Actually the Jamminsam "stuff" is an exact match for the late 70's-1980's white marine pearl. This is what the last of the "true" white marine pearl looked like, bluish tint and all. (Hence the marine term in WMP) (And when I say "true" I mean the traditional triangular pattern pearl, not that ugly small random chip patten they use now....and there is also nothing "marine" about the modern small chip pattern that they use today as it is a pure white, not a bluish-white)
