it could also be a prototype shell for the kit. they have "b" stock shells they use for prototypes.

i got a kit from my old boss with a prototype paint job. apparently they have shells they use for stuff like this. the toms were misdrilled. he said i had to wrap the kit if i sold it (which i did) and i drilled the holes correctly and still have those toms.

look at the location of the eagle.its tail is under a ft mount. i don't think the production line was like that. i don't have my ludwig books handy to check so i could be wrong. but still a interesting find.

a friend of mine has one of those toms/floor toms. he's trying to get rid of it.

point taken that's goes the same for most anything art etc that's what i do for old churches etc its really has a name its called discovery and analysis of old finishes when i talk on the subject we call it opening up a window to the past goodluck

Well...all the glue is off. I'm thinking of just ebaying it as is so whoever gets it can decide how they want to clear coat it. In the mean time...I need to find another 16 inch shell for this kit!

I was planning on just re-wrapping the kit but now I am kind of in a pickle. Not sure what to do at this point. I guess Ill just put this shell on ebay (Im not into eagles) and just wait until a floor tom shell comes up to place with this kit. All the hardware cleaned up REALLY nice and I think with the modular hardware holes filled this is going to be a very classy looking set. The shells themselves are in great shape considering how beat up and neglected they looked when I got them.

One more question regarding this drum. It's on eBay right now and I've gotten a few questions regarding the 4 holes for the leg mounts. Obviously Ludwigs usually only have two, and this drum's leg mounts only have two holes...but they definitely had one large plate on the inside instead of 2 smaller ones like normal. This larger plate covers up the other two holes, and the mount itself covers up the holes on the outside. T

o my knowledge the previous owner never did anything to alter anything...and even if they did...they wouldn't have replaced the original parts. Any thoughts on what a good answer for this is? I don't believe that these are "extra holes".....are they? To me they are factory.

Adam, On the leg mounts.If i recall right the mounts only used two mounting screws running up and down the two holes that run L and R were for two "tips" that came out of the mount and used no mounting screws...Mikey

That 4-hole pattern is the same as for a clip type tom mount as used on concert toms. It looks like the holes were enlarged later for the regular leg mount. You say this drum was also drilled for modular hardware? If so, then this would have been a "hanging" floor tom and the holes for the legs might not have been factory drilled, hence the odd pattern and placement.

No, this is a standard floor tom. No modular hardware on this thing. The 22 and 13 that came with it had modular hardware.

All three legs have the same hole pattern. Nothing was modded as far as I know.
