Sure Bop, I will post all the details once I have explored my new drum and recorded some tracks in my favorite tuning ranges.

In the meantime, here is a video that I made the same day I got my snare. It shows all my Slingerland TDR snares. While unboxing my "Two-to-One" I quickly took out my brushes to play right out of the box. The heads were very low tuned as you can hear. I used a Shure PG56 microphone, so the sound of the snare is realistic.

Lovely looking drum! What are the reasons for the lug set up though? I would have thought fewer lugs on the snare side would mean fewer tuning possibilities and poorer response?

That is a good question brody, and I think that you're not the only one who is wondering. To start off with, here is what Slingerland wrote in their brochure at the time (see attached pic.) And then forum member OsakaBop has also given his explanation in a previous reply about how he tunes his 12/6 lug snare.

That's fantastic to read that brochure from Slingerland describing why they designed these drums this way. It does seem odd though that they would market to drummers that hated tuning a drum so much that they wouldn't want to even do it once "mid-tour"Party

I agree with you Bop, that's why I love this oddity among snares.

By the way, I listened to one of your videos when you play with the singer Alicia. That was cool. Was that with your 12/6? If not, give me a link where you play with the 12/6 lug drum.

I believe it went to Steve Maxwell after that.

I remember many years ago a tom tom showed up on eBay and Rich followed through and ended up with the snare drum because no one bid, or it was pick-up only.

I'm not sure if he checks in any more, but he was a member here at one time and he can fill in my sketchy (at best) memory from many years ago.

Wonderful that this actually was Louis Bellson's own snare. Yes, while googling for Bellson and "Two-to-One", I stumbled upon the Rich K. collection with the model with Louie's name plate on it.

Ah, I see, so the angle was all about keeping the drum in tune! Interesting. I suppose a lot of old snares were 6-lug anyway on both sides!
