Thanks for watching, Olimpass. I was the first to play on this drum. The original Slingerland batter head was almost looking new, a little bit yellow, but that's 30 years of lying in a box!

I have ordered an "Aquarian - Response 2" head. Roy Burns says that those sound great on snare drums that have sharp bearing edges like this drum has. The original Slingerland resonant head was also yellow of age. So that one will also be replaced.

Hi there Roger. Yes, it is very sweet. I also have two other TDR-snares. One is a 5.5", 5-ply and the other a 5" brass snare, both called "Spitfire".

The 5.5" x 14" "Spitfire", white laquered snare does not have the original 12-lug batter side sticksaver. I'm paying $69, if someone is willing to sell such a steel-sticksaver to me.

Thanks for watching,

Fred

Wow! that drum is the definition of "pristine condition"

I would be very interested in the future to hear your insights on tuning and performance. I have a custom-made 12 over 6 made from a 14x5.5 Tempus fiberglass shell. It's a great drum but I have only been using it tuned in the high register- it cracks very well, however I suspect the drum should be able to be more multi-purpose.

My instinct tells me that 12 lugs on top would allow for consist tuning in the upper register with 6 on the bottom "asking" to be tuned more loosely with some give in the head. Definitely tell me what you discover.Cool1

Hi there Mr. Slingerland. I will surely remember your reply the day I want to sell this beauty.

I have already tried different styles of playing with this drum. It's great with brushes for example. Also great for funk and rock.

One of the reasons I wanted this snare so badly was because it's so unusual. It looks like a different kind of Concert King. Playing this drum will surely make people gaze at the player. Speaking about player. Some say that the "Spitfire" (similar to the "2-1" model) was the unofficial signature snare of Louie Bellson, at the time when he was a Slingerland endorser, after Buddy Rich had been fired from the Slingerland Company. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, I look forward to start to play on this oddity that has a different kind of lugging, he he! singer

Thanks for your interest in my new old drum,

Fred
