I ordered a Speedfire head from Remo 10+ years ago,and when I got it,it didn't fit!

It fit 4/5th of the way around, but was around 1/4" too long at the bottom.

I heard the best way for them to make one is to send your original to them!

Yes there are two sizes according to Remo. Here is what was sent to me from Remo:

There are actually 2 different size Trixon bass drums in circulation but we only have tooling for the smaller of the 2-which is most common so there should be no problem.

I guess beware!!

Unfortunately the heads at Trixon have been out of stock for some time, that is why Eddie ryan in the uk or www.pergament-trommelfell.de who are a german company are also good contacts to be aware of!!

alternately you could also contact gerd at stdrums.de.

i have dealt extensively with Remo , regarding the production of custom Trixon heads; all of the pre-1964 sizes . the stock heads that they provide for Trixon speedfire drums are for the post 1959 drums, which are slightly smaller than the pre-1959 drums. the older drums have 11 lugs and the height x width is 20 1/4 x 28 3/4 . the later drum has 10 lugs and h x w is 18 3/4 x 20.

obviously , because these drums are an unusual shape and vulnerable to slight deformation over time when the heads are stripped(any drum will do this but round drums more easily squish into shape when the head is applied) it is a good idea to supply Remo with the old head and or hoop. this helps them get their measurements down. however, I did a lot of checking and rechecking with them during production even to the point of receiving samples and it was a good thing that I did because they sent me 497 and 547 mm heads to fit 500 and 550 mm shells??? the problem i think came from using the term mm or cm. the U.S. is the most metric unfriendly place this side of Uranus. i eventually had to supply measurements in fractions of inches. keep on them and they will provide very fine heads, albeit at a price that is difficult but in the long run worth it.

It's the best advice - legendary "Altenburger Pergament" has been a main regular supplier for TRIXON and all others german drummakers.

I'm pretty sure that there will be no problem for AP to make all sorts of heads to any Trixon drums.
