Apollo Starfinder

Loading...

I may have the chance to pick up an Apollo Starfinder

kit: 20,12,14. I have heard that is like the Holy Grail

of Japanese kits. Can anyone chime in on a possible value

for this set up? I haven't seen it in person yet but the pictures

look like the real deal.

Thanks,

T-Rod

Welcome!

Never heard of Apollo Starfinder before. Apollo was made by Star in the 60s and 70s, and likely that is someone's misunderstanding of what they have. We would need to see some pix of the kit so we can give you a better evaluation of them and maybe help with a decent price. These are a mid-line kit for the Apollo/Stewart/DrumMate lines. Not that any of the old MIJ, as we think of them, were anywhere close to a top of the line kit, but they typically run, depending on condition, type of shells, sizes, which yours are more desirable because they are 20-12-14, wrap color and completeness of offering, 75-300. Top dollar kits are usually a rarer wrap color, with a complete set of hardware, clean as a pin, and even including some cymbals. If you will allow us, we can help you get you a deal the is in your favor, not the sellers. I specialize in MIJ drums, so you are getting the benefit of one of the top guns where MIJ are concerned. I deal almost exclusively in MIJ, Star when I can have the choice.

There was a recent Ebay listing of what appeared to be a Starfinder, but I noticed quite a few detail differences.....different tom mounting hardware(dual consollette),different ridges on the toms etc.Much more primitive construction than the MIJ original.I have never seen one in person,or heard one either.Would they sound like a timbale drum set?Hmmmmmm?I have seen a LOT of drums-never one of those.

Thanks for your input you don't know how much it is appreciated.

I put the link to the catalog below. The set is in the 2nd row of

catagogs and is on the very right side and is the bottom picture of

the 2 on the catalog page.

It states on the picture Apollo Starfinder all chrome outfit.

I will hopefully be able to see them in person Friday night so if

anyone has anymore input just throw it out there.

Well now, that is another thing altogether! If it is the chrome kit, get some pix for us, and then let's work him over to get you some drums!

I was just looking at the cat pics. The snare has Imperial lugs on it. We had one of these snares come up last year and we could not figure out where it came from. We knew it was not a Ludwig Supra as it was COS, not COB or COA, the strainer was not right and it just didn't quite jive. Now I know if I run across one to snag it. Is the kit you are looking at complete with snare?

Jonni,

It doesn't have the snare with it. It is just the 12,14,20 and a throw

in 16. It's hard to tell from the images I have seen but it looks as if

the ft legs are correct and maybe the tom mount but I think the

spurs are a little different shape.

From the original catalog I couldn't tell if the drum shell is metal or

it just has a chrome wrap. I am willing to bet it's firewood with a chrome

wrap.

Thanks
