I got this shell a couple days ago.Never seen one before.I have a few questions about it.It looks like is 9 ply shell like it is in Pearl catalog scans, last ply before wrap looks like lauan, also,I found information that fiberglass was sprayed, but here it looks like it is one inner ply(look the overlap).According to badge it is somewhere in the end of the 70-ties and beginning of 80-ties.Any information you have are thankful. Thanks too Pearl MIT productions,I have almost all parts, except bass drum legs, but they will come eventually.

Thank you!

Hey Dule,A few thing's about the drum.Pearl made this from 1974-77 shell is a 9 ply lauan wood shell with a ply if you will of fiberglass..To me they are ok sounding drum's but if the shell was all fiberglass it's a killer sounding drum..The only problem is that it will take sometime on coming up with the leg's these are so hard to come by,they brake off at the top of the mount.I have three guy's waiting for me to fine some and it's been 7 month's..The way you can get leg's is you can add newer one's or copy's for Pearl but you would have to drill 4 new hole's into the shell...If you need any T-rod's or claw's i have them.....Mikey

Hi, Mikey! Actually, I have, both, Pearl fiberglass and Pearl wood-fiberglass kits from about 1978 (same name plates as pictured in the photo). I replaced the bass drum legs/spurs on both sets with the new Pearl ones - same hole pattern but larger holes. I simply used a larger drill bit and made the holes bigger. This is definitely the way to go since to new legs are far superior to the original ones.

Can you shoot us a pic of the spurs you are looking for?

I have a few pairs here I took off vintage Ludwigs etc! They were NOT factory issue either!

Blairndrums:The distance between center of the holes are 7cm(2,75") and 5cm(2"),but those horizontal holes are messed up a little.I know that previous owner used all parts from Pearl Export from late 80-ties,so I suppose there was difference between Export spurs and those for wood fiberglass

I completed drum with all stencil hoops, lugs, claws and T-rods and some combination of Amati/Tacton bass drum legs, and i found even one pearl front head, from little earlier year .It is one of the heaviest bass drums I have ever seen!Beside Sonor Signature,I don't think I have ever seen hevier!

Don't know if this will help or not, but I have pictures of the 2 different types of spurs Pearl used on their Fiberglass and Wood/Fiberglass kits of the 1970s. (I tried to upload the pictures, but that failed and I don't have the time to figure out the problem).

The early to mid 70s had a round knob, the late 70s had a wing-screw. IF anyone is interested, send me an email address and I'll forward the pics.

Also, I do have an early 70s W/F floor tom that the fiberglass was NOT painted on the inside (the inside is the same color as the regular fiberglass drums). Don't know if this is an oddity or something that was normal at the time. Just curious, but if anyone knows, let me know...

Thanks.
