Hi everybody ! I play guitar not drums ! However, my 10 year old son started playing drums about a year ago.On Saturday we went to a local music shop to see if they had any secondhand hi hats.I know nothing about cymbals but we bought the pair that sounded best to us !! They are Paiste Formula 602 14" Heavy Hi Hats,Blue label.We paid £40 for them.I have researched them on the net but there is something that does not seem right to me!

There are no serial numbers on them.I understand that they are from the eighties and should have numbers ? Is there such a thing as fake 602`s ?

Welcome to the VDF, can you post pics of your cymbal ?that will really help the evaluation move quicker, so you paid like $90.00 for them? if they are 602's you got a really great deal.

On the top cymbal you should see the large blue ink Paiste Formula 602 stamped on cymbal at the 12-O'clock position; the Top Heavy hi-hat 14" blue ink stamped on the cymbal at the 3-O'clock position; and the Paiste name and serial number hard stamped into the cymbal at the 6-O'clock position. The hard stamp is close to the bell.

The bottom cymbal is marked in a similar fashion but will be ink stamped "bottom"

Thanks for replies,the logo etc looks ok to me but no number stamps .But what do I know!

40 Quid is around $70!

Serial numbers started in 1971-72 if I recall correctly..........

I used to always go by around 1.75 U.S. to the British Pound

Must be less now.............

Those look real to me. I can only get to the one photo. There should be small serial numbers (6 digits) stamped into the metal not far below the bell (that's the opposite direction away from where the blue ink label says 602). Maybe the serial numbers are just very faint.

Those are called blue label 602s and they fetch a premium over the earlier ones. Also hats which say Heavy like those fetch a premium as well. I've tracked all the 602 eBay sales over the past 5 years and the average those fetch would be about $590 (that's £368 according to my feed of today's rates) so you got the deal of the decade there. Unless of course there is something funny about the bottom hat of the pair. But as I say I can only see one photo.

Hi,went back to the shop today and bought a 20" Blue Label Medium ride.Similar deal to the hats.Same condition,they must of all came in together.Again,no visible serial number !Marks on all of them look like residue from gaffa tape !What is the best way to clean them ? His remaining Paiste Hi Hats are the 400 series.
