I love stories like this, some people are really lucky... This is amazing. And a K for 40 bucks? Mmmmmm Excited
Call me a skeptic, but there is something not quite right with this.........If you go on GC's website, they do have a lot of vintage gear in their stores across the country and they are priced accordingly (meaning they know what they are selling before prices are set). This just sounds way to good to be actually true....someone is pulling our leg here. $500 I could maybe buy that, but $100?? Post a picture of the GC receipt and then I'll admit that it is true and a great deal.Hmmmm
Hey L-D, The same thing i was thinking...I used to sell vintage drum's to the GS in hollywood,ca in the 1990's,they paid me my asking price knowing that they would double it....Mikey
I got my 18" K istanbul for $35. Bought it privatley. I almost fainted when the guy told me what he wanted for it...who was I to argue? He even delivered it to my house. In the studio it sounds just like a 20". Ive used it as my only cymbal (along with hats) on many gigs.
Just traded a '90s Pearl Steel shell free floating snare for a '60s Gretsch Round Badge Name Band snare (w/ microsensitive strainer). Even trade.
As for the 99$ drum set. I once heard a similar story. The price was for the snare drum only, and somehow the guy got out the door woth the whole set and the snare drum. Not sure if he knew what he was doing or the GC employees made a mistake.
Yes this type of thing happens. You just have to be patient. I've waited years and years for deals like these, then one day you just happen to be in the right place at the right time.
WTF???
Which guitar center...where?
Maybe they have some cruddy old K's behind the counter that they want to unload.
I LOVE being Canadian.....that being said, reading this post makes me want to curl up in a ball and cry like a baby. To say you are lucky living in the States when it comes to finding drums more easily, and at much lower prices is an UNDERSTATEMENT! There isn't a single drum shop in a 1000 square km radius of me that sells even so much as a vintage cymbal stand. In our local craigslist ads, you may see the odd vintage kit or hardware, maybe a few times a month. $99.99 for a 60's LUDWIG kit.............hmmmmm......a deal....are you kidding?!??DOH

On second thought, I am wondering the same thing. How could this be? I am fighting to hunt a vintage hi hat clutch that I cannot find for under $35. $99.99 for an entire kit?
How DARE any of you call me a liar. You can go pound salt in your a s s and consider me just one more member that you've run off. This is the most hostile and unfriendly forum I have ever visited.

I'm not calling anyone a liar here. As a matter of fact the word never came up. All I said was that I was skeptical. Seems pretty cheap, thats all.
You know the old addage, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is......well, to me it sounds like it applies. Believe me, I have come across some deals over the years myself, but never at a major retail chain where they DO know vintage gear.
If it is true, then great for you, you beat ALL of us to the punch. x-mas3
