What have I got?

Loading...

I found a cymbal today for $50.00 at a pawn shop. I was tickled to find it, and even though it had a sticker that said 16" ride I bought it right away (lol).

It's a 16" Zildjian, in great shape, has a very minor keyhole, and is fairly heavy as in medium ride thick (I have no scale to check it). It has no ink stamp and doesn't appear to have had any, and appears to me to be a 70's thin stamp. Am I correct?

Thanks for your help!

ZMAN, that's what I used. And this:

I just wanted an expert to say "yup that's it". And also, the logo is 1 1/4" high.

Thanks,

You used the above references and what you came up with was 1970's?

That's a pretty good advertisement for why you shouldn't be using them then.

That 1960's. More middle to late than early.

Drumaholic pointed out that this was a '60s stamp. One of the things I think you missed is the three dots between the U shaped Arabic letters just above the DIS in AVEDIS. Even when using that inaccurate site, you need to check all the small details. Take another look.

Thanks Mark and Drumaholic. The Ehow reference to 1 1/4" threw me, that and maybe that I couldn't believe I found a "60's" Zildjian in a pawn shop for $50.00.

You guys have an amazing grasp on this stuff, but there are a lot of dummies like me that come here and read your posts... and a lot of them are scared to death to post something or register because they're afraid of saying something stupid. I'll never be a collector, but it's thrilling to score something like this. Not to sell... but just to use with my gigging drums and feel connected to the "good old days" when I was a kid in bands. Plus it sounds great!

I truly appreciate your knowledge and help. It also occurs to me that I can do a vintage setup now with this 16" Zildjian, my 22" Ajaha ride and my 13" Meinl Meteor hats. Probably not the most desirable vintage cymbals, but it's cool to me.

The only people who get trashed for their opinions here are those that disagree with the assessment they get and become arrogant, stubborn or argumentative. Drumaholic invented and continues to update the timeline that others have copied,

This is a pretty useless site. Its incomplete, there are no photos and the descriptions are too vague.
