This is one of those deals you hear about but never happens to you. Well, I guess it was my turn.
13/16/22 Super Classic. Date stamped 1963. Pre-serial number keystone badges.
Beautiful silver sparkle. There's no evidence of fade. The color under the hoops is exactly like the rest of the wrap. I'll see the real truth when I start removing the lugs to clean. It's totally tight at all seams.
White resicote interiors.
Red baseball bat mufflers.
Everything is nickel over brass except the snare (Oh, didn't I mention that it came with the original matching chrome over brass Supraphonic snare for $99.99? LOL). Actually, I think they still called it a Super Ludwig snare in 63. Unless this is a first year issue Supraphonic. I still need to do a little research.
There's hardly a scratch anywhere from my initial inspection. The legs on the bass drum and the legs on the floor tom look like they have only been tightened down on a few times.
My guess is that they were played a few times and then stored in the hard cases until now. What? I didn't mention that the set came with a full set of hard cases, too? LOL
A pretty darn good deal for $99.99.
So, now comes the task of removing all the hardware and detailing. This nickel is really hard to shine. Flitz and a lot of elbow grease is the only thing I have found so far that works.
I'll post some "before" pictures as soon as I get some. I was so excited I just had to post. LOL
On a different topic and not related other than to speak of my excitement. I have my new 2010 Tama Starclassic Bubinga Birch set arriving tomorrow. I am a happy drummer this week. :) This will be the first drums I have played that are not from the 60's (or 70's). It should prove to be an interesting comparison.
