Gretsch Jazz USA Drums - What to do?

Loading...

Hi everyone...

I just picked up a 1980(my guess) Gretsch kit...

The poor things have been spray painted black,(over natural lacquer)and had the badges removed but the mufflers and internal tags are there. The tags are grey/white, not orange...and the outline for the badges look like Stop sign drop G ... OR earlier... but I think it would have been drop G with the grey/white label inside?? Help me if I'm wrong?

Anyway... the sizes are 18X14 bass, 14X14 floor, 12X8 tom and 14X5 COB snare(the snare has the badge and is un-molested)

My main question is - I know it would be sad for a wrap job but I'd love a tony williams yellow kit as I've wanted one forever. I just located two badges for the 18+14, JamminSam can send me the wrap etc.

Would the bass hoops be solid yellow inside and out? I was thinking of router'n the factory 3/4 inlay on the hoops and painting them black but It might be totally wrong for the ERA. They are solid right now with the two holes for the factory spur.

Any help or input would be great guys.

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, true Yellow Nitron, or Tony Williams Yellow if you will, was a lacquer painted finish, not a wrap. The hoops would have been painted a solid yellow, top&bottom, inside&outside. The yellow that jamminsam offers is more like the yellow that Yamaha used on the recording custom drums back in the 80's.

Sticky - I would love to see that kit. The kit I just picked up is natural lacquer underneath the horrific spray job....Let me know if you're going to sell it.
