Looking for 18" Snare Rims

Loading...

I am going to try and complete the assembly of an older Blaemire shell project started a long time ago by the previous shell owner.

The shell is 9 by 18 and already has snare beds cut into lower edge.

I am seeking rims, 10 hole for 10 lugs and lower 10 hole rim with snare cut outs.

Also 18 inch snare wires.

I have not found any of these items yet, and I am not surprised.

I would also be interested in using 18" single flanged hoops for use with rod/rim clips. Old school style.

This is a very wild idea, but I kind of like it.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

See pic of shell.

You're going to look for a very, very long time before finding an 18" snare-side rim. Best bet is to get a tom rim and drill a couple holes on each side for the snare-mounting string.

Thank you tube lug. The hole drilling suggestion is very good.

Thanx GGD

The wading is the hardest part. The swimming is very ausgezeichnet.

That, and how about finding 18" wires? Good luck with the build Scott.

BTW, you can always make a cool gong bass.;)

You can make 18" snare wire's..The only real problem will be in fineing a 18" snare side head...Year's ago i made some 18" snare drum's for a marching band out of tom's that were 10x18,i had to make the rim's as tube-lug's said out of 18" tom rim's but these were 8 hole the only 10 hole rim you will fine is made by Gretsch they used them on 18'' floor tom's..The snare side head's i had Remo make them for me-{good to have a friend who worked at Remo at the time}-Mikey

Hey Greg, There are many hurdles with this one. I thought I would take guitar strings, like E strings, big, and have them soldered to some old snare wire termination bars with the holes in them for strings or straps.

Maybe E is not the right string. I will have to look at guitar string choices.

This is a real journey.

Thanks

Mikey, You are so right! I keep forgetting about all the hurdles. The bottom snare head! Duh. What do you think would be the thinnest stock head I could use?

Regular top head Diplomat? What's thinner? Orbital sander to a drum head?

Thanks Man
