There are a few factors that warrant top dollar for vintage drums set. Which you are definitly asking..
1. Rarity of set which would include sizes.
2. Condition
3. Is it all factory original, including finish.
4. Is it a matched set.
Note: Most dealers I see that are selling high end gear will post detailed shots of the interiors, and the edges.
Agreed. Not w/ an 18".

Roundbadge selling for $2400, you can be sure that with "bop" sizes, it would be at least $1000 dearer. I think $3000 for a slingerland in these sizes is a fair enough deal considering everything.

The thing is that unfortunately Slingerland drum sets just aren't selling in the same ballpark as Gretsch drums.
Do a search of completed Slingerland auctions then do a Gretsch search.
What finish was the set originally?

It looks like mahogany. Not walnut. This tells me that someone removed the red sparkle wrap and refinished it, which is why new heads fit so easily. Hollywood Ace snare is okay. Not a big ticket item. The 18" kick is desirable. But it wouldn't be too difficult to scour craigslist, buy 4 mismatched Slingerlands, strip them and clear coat them for $350-$500. Slingerland is one of the most common vintage drums in America. I don't know if it's because I live 30 minutes away from the old Niles, IL plant or what. But I routinely buy Slingerlands for the cost of a couple pizzas. It seems like everybody has something Slingerland in their basement or at the pawn shops. I got a 7 piece set (with Zildjians) for $75 at a garage sale, 20" white marine pearl bass drum from a local school for FREE, $40 for three assorted drums (maple), $75 for a snare with case, and my main kit ('68 4-piece silver sparkle) for $200.

Yeah, if you ask a drum dealer, I think they'll tell you a kit like this is worth MUCH more than that! I'd prefer the kit like this, I think its the most beautiful kit I have ever seen, who cares if the wrap might have been taken off? It doesn't affect the sound, just makes it look nicer

I can understand that completely I love natural finishes BUT people that are going to shell out serious money for a set of vintage tubs want original finishes.
You could just run some more auctions for less and less BIN prices, and get back to us when it sells since you don't seem to like what you are hearing around here?

No, its just that I myself think a kit like this is worth a lot of money, and would pay for another one like it if I had the money. But I seem to be different to the fray, so I'll be in the minority with these things. Like imo I see some horrible sparkle kits go for a high price, and some beautiful natural ones go from really cheap. Just my opinion I guess.
