1966 Ludwig kit... Please help me identify model

Loading...

22 13 16 with hot dog and cymbal mount in the correct spots along with the correct snare and stand package all go into what is classified as the Super Classic. There were a couple of years where Ludwig removed the cymbal mount and added a stand and called it the Deluxe Classic. So, yes, the cymbal mount is important. But, it doesn't automatically denote it as a Super Classic. There are so many little details between packages and kits ... I guess that's what stirs the Collectors stew pot.

For the point of accuracy, that is a Ludwig bass Tom mount, but not a Ludwig bass Tom holder.

No...This kit originally had a rail consolette mount which was removed. Then someone drilled the bass drum for a center mount to be used with 2 mounted toms which would have made it a Hollywood kit.As soon as you alter a drum set in any way by drilling holes and using non period correct parts, its altered for life and worth only half as much. You have a great "players" kit there but it is not nor will it ever be in collectable condition.

Regardless of the extra 'bits' and missing 'stuff' (yeah, it isn't original is what they are saying) $150 is a very sweet deal. I'd think you could triple your money in a heartbeat, easy. But, if you're going to use 'em, they will sound so sweet.

Fine find!

Agreed! I'd have paid three times that and then some for this kit. Nice find.

Kits:
1950s Gretsch Name Band in Midnight Blue Pearl (13/16/22/14sn)
1965/66 Ludwig Club Dates rewrapped in Black Diamond Pearl (12/15/20)

What a coincidence, I am also a guitar player and picked up these from a friend yesterday. I think I got ripped off because I paid him $300 for the kit.

You could probably sell the snare and the hi-hat stand in two separate auctions on eBay and get your $300 back. But don't. Keep the kit together please. People here can talk you thorough what you need to do to restore it to its original glory. For example the metal hoop on the batter side of the bass drum isn't original. It should match the other one in black wood with the nice inlay.

Oh I'm definitely not parting it out. I bought it to record with and have the drummer in my band play it out live.

Oh my fellow American compadres, you make me laugh.....I just paid $325 for three 1972 ATLAS cymbal stands.....I am very happy with this purchase. That being said, a few hundred dollars and/or less than that for the previous mentioned kits. Are you kidding me? They are worth at least double than what you paid for them. I wish we had the same availability here in Canada...p.s we do not live in igloos, only in 1971 26" LUDWIG bass drumsExcited....
